Entry Visa?

Hi
My mum just got a invitation for a 5 year ENTRY visa for studying Yoga, chanting mantras, etc
I got a invitation from the same place for a student visa and got a 5 year student visa (I'm 16) my mum is 46, and has Ukrainian citizenship (for now).
Now I read that entry visa is only people with origins in India or spouse/dependents of someone in India... Do you think they will give it to my mother? She has a completely valid invitation.
What if she says she has to be there with me (a student).. will there be a need to point that out?

BTW if it matter, She plans to apple in Hong Kong.

i presume you meant 'apply'....

I was born in the US....US citizenship, and no Indian origins that I know of. but I have the same last name and a birth certificate.
I did mean apply... :D
BTW the guy who gave the invitation said its the same type of invitation that they gave to some other foreigner people

It is an "invitation letter". Which means you take it to the indian embassy or consulate where you live and can show ID that shows you live there (not "where you happen to be at the current time"), and apply for a visa.

You'd have to convince the issuing officer that you need to get a 5 year student visa of course - and this is normally granted to recognized higher education institutions (as in that award a degree that you can use to get a job, and that is certified by the university grants commission .. aka "not a diploma mill" of the tri-valley university sort that US authorities recently busted)

It depends on whether the consulate officer who reviews your application thinks (and more likely has documentation) that you're applying for a valid course - and what is the curriculum there .. grow beards, drink bhang ..

I had an invitation from the exact same organization that got me a no-problem student visa... the question is will they give my mother a entry visa without being of indian origin.

if she has an invitation to study then won't she be applying for a student visa as well????

her invitation says "to study yoga, mantras etc and we ask you to grant her a multiple entry 5 year entry visa"

There seems to be some confusion here. In India, an "entry visa" is a specific category, distinct from a tourist visa, student visa or business visa. It allows entry to people who are not tourists, students, or on business, etc.

That said, I think the OP is over-thinking this. The invitation letter can be submitted as part of the application, to justify the visit, but it is not an official document. The consulate isn't going to say "The invitation says entry visa, but you're not eligible vide rule 39552(c) Sec 1123, so off with your head". They will give her the appropriate visa, which could be an entry visa---the rules seem ambiguous. So the letter is fine, but one should talk to the visa issuing office before applying for a specific type of visa.

great... thanks for the help.

The Indian visa application place in Hong Kong apparently called the consulate in front of us, and flat out refused to even accept her application. They say they cannot give any student OR entry visas UNLESS you have a hong kong ID card.
Would the place in Guangzhour, Shanghai, or Bejing possibly give her one?

hserus Dec 20, 2011 4:38 am

They'll take your mother's application if she is a legal resident of shanghai, beijing or wherever and has the ID to prove it (chinese residency papers, ID card etc showing residency in mainland china / in whichever chinese city you apply in)

Else she can always fly back to the Ukraine and apply there.

that's exactly what she should be doing....trying to apply in places where she does not have residency isn't going to help....
