Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I've been too busy to check either of those option out.

I had also asked the concierge at my hotel (currently Four Seasons) and they have a tailor that comes to the hotel with samples and does the fitting here. Apparently they can turn the initial fit out in 24 hours at a cost of about INR 8000 for the stitching and anywhere from INR 8000 and up for the fabric. I'm sure this is overpriced, but how overpriced is it for a quality tailor, which I have to assume he is if used by the FS.

Let us know how it works out with him and also advise if the tailor has his own shop in Mumbai - that way we wouldn't have to check into the FS to get a suit fitted! :p

It depends. If it is a bespoke tailor the costs are likely to be a markup of something like 15..20% for the tailoring, and then for the fabric as well. If you get super 130 italian wool or something of the sort - well, that markup, especially in the fabric costs, will begin to bite much harder.

Vaish is a well known bespoke tailor in bombay .. and check this thread for more. http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowTopic-...harashtra.html

Ended up opting not to deal with a tailor on this trip - don't really feel like having the fittings or making any decisions at the moment. FWIW, I am now at the Grand Hyatt and they also have a tailor that will come to the hotel. Can't vouch for the quality at either - but I'm sure the prices reflect this convenience.

Will be staying at the taj next week, will certainly try the local tailor in the building.

My big Q is - does a fabric brand non affiliated tailor have enough variety and high end quality fabric to choosw from ?

I walked into the reid and taylor shop also in south bombay and did see a big fabric selection and always wonder if tailors carry a similar range.

Thank you...
