can someone suggest 4-5 star hotels in Jaipur,Jodhpur,Jaisalmer and Udaipur [we want to stay at Lake palace or the experience of it , is it worth the price?]
Also sight seeing suggestions in all these places. Thanks.:)

in jaipur i usually stay at the sheraton rajputana hotel....great property....

the lake palace is definitely worth a stay once....otherwise starwood has a new sheraton there....you could check that out as well....

Depends on how much you want to spend :-), then chose a hotel, but i think the good ones are

Jaipur i would say
Rajputana Sheraton for 8K, normal 5* Hotel
Jai Mahal palace for like 12K, orignal Palace hotel
Rambagh Palave or Oberoi Raj vilas maybe like 30K, orignal palace hotel

Jodhpur
Taj Umaid Bhavan Palace 20K, orignal palace hotel
Taj Hari Mahal 8K , normal hotel not a palace
Taj Gateway , 5K normal hotel.
Balsamand Palace, good hotel if you take the suites, Palace hotel, but not as good as umaid bhavan, balsamand is good for its price 10-12K.
One new hotel i have not yet seen though is Raas , hear its very good but service and entrance to the hotel is ok ok, new boutique hotel.

Jaisalmer,
i think of only two options,
Gorbandh Palace and Taj rawal Kot
both are heritage hotels, though i prefer gorband over taj.
maybe 4K.

Udaipur
Lake Palace, its unique because its between a lake, but i think Udai Vilas is better. both cost around 25K
lower budget
even fateh prakash - dove cote rooms are nice.
if you dont mind non palace hotels then even Trident is good. 8K

one more very good property i like is khimsar sand dunes village, google it.

i think price shoot up drasticaly then what i have sid during christmas new year and discount by half from april to sept each year.

hope the above information is useful to you,

reagrds

sgirglani, I like both the Jai Mahal & Rambaugh Palace in Jaipur - it really does boil down to what price range you're looking for. The Taj Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur is, IMO, the best place to stay there, its an amazing experience.

For sightseeing, I suggest you call Taj Holidays (or check out their website). For example, both their Jaipur hotels (Jai Mahal & Rambaugh) offer a 2 or 3 night package with airport/train transfer, half board & sightseeing by a/c car with a guide included. Sightseeing in Jaipur is pretty standard, Amber Palace, the city palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar etc.

Taj also offers some Rajasthan packages for as many days as you want in the various cities, with a car & driver to get you between locations & take you sightseeing. It may be easier to simply book a package through them than to deal with all the hotels separately, particularly if you also decide to do the Udaipur Lake Palace hotel (also a Taj property as are the three I list above).

so are these hotels good ?
Jaipur - Hotel Ramada [is Starwood sheraton a better choice?]
Udaipur -Shive niwas palace.
Jodhpur - Vivanta by Taj hari Mahal.
Jaisalmer - Gorbandh palace.

Should we stay in the tent camp in Jaisalmer ? is it intolerably cold at night ? I'm dead scared of snakes - are there any ?

Is train journey better than road journey ? Faster too?

i would go with the sheraton in jaipur....have never stayed at the gorbandh palace in jaisalmer so can't comment on that....

it can get really cold at night (depending on when you will be there)....can't comment on the snakes as well since i have never stayed in a tent camp there....

i would suggest the train over a road journey....

air travel in Rajasthan.

so no one suggested that we can travel by plane to each cities within Rajasthan. We're going to do that since it is available. I wanted to know if it's ok to drop Udaipur from our trip as we're looking at hectic schedule here. or we must visit all four places, Jaipur,Jaisalmer,Jodhpur and Udaipur.

Unless you're going to be in Jaisalmer specifically at the time of the Camel Fair, I would do Udaipur over Jaisalmer. I wouldn't stay at either the Sheraton or Ramada in Jaipur because I think part of the experience to go there as a tourist is to stay in one of the heritage hotels. It looks like the only one you've chosen is the Shiv Niwas Palace so I'd make sure to include that at a minimum. But it really is a question of what is your taste & what are you looking to get out of your visit.
