Atl to del ?

looking for suggestions from ATL to DEL
choices:
1) 2 hour flight to NY or ORD, then 14 hour flight
2) 8 to CDG, then 8 more to DEL
I dont have too much experience and with limited funds will be back in the cheap seats. Better to split it in half or go with one long and one short? I have pro/con's for each but appreciate your suggestions.
thanks

I was in the same situation that you are in, and I chose the 2 + 14 option. Wanted to get over it as quickly as possible and did not like the hassle of changing flights in Europe.

All else being equal, I'd personally go with 2+14 and Ambien (or whatever floats your boat in that department). An eight-hour flight, by the time you factor in all the stuff that goes on at the beginning, at the end and at mealtimes, is too short to get as much sleep as I'd want. YMMV.

The airline, aircraft type, seating and mileage earning (not so much 400 more miles for the CDG routing, more how the fare classes I'd book are credited to the program of my choice) might affect my choice, though.

i completely see where you guys are coming from but i have never been a fan of 14+ hour flights....the longest flight i take is from del-lhr which is normally under 9 hours....even though i travel in business or first all the time, i don't think i could take more than 8-9 consecutive hours on a plane....

Having done the EWR->DEL flight on CO a number of times, I must say I would personally prefer a short flight with the long flight over two mid-length flights.

Generally, I enjoy a meal, watch a movie and then get some sleep. The only issue with doing that is that you will arrive around bedtime on the night you land, so it makes getting the sleep cycle organized a little more difficult.

I'd take the 2/14 flight because I hate to transit.

I'm not a fan of 14-hour flights either, though I've taken several of them between the U.S. and Australia (in the small seats, like the OP). Problem is, I'm not a fan of two 8-to-10 hour flights back to back either, having done that as well. For me it's a case of choosing the lesser of two evils, not of liking one. Hence my vote for 2+14.

You want to go where? Sep 24, 2010 10:54 am

I personally would go for the 8+8. I find it important to get the exercise of changing planes in the middle. That said, I would also take a one-day layover in the middle, but this may not be possible for you, especially if saving money is an option.
