Commonwealth Games - Safety and Security
On top of the other problems with the games, were were reminded today that they are also a terrorist target.
The United States has issued a travel advisory to its citizens in the wake of today's firing incident at Jama Masjid here, asking them to be cautious and maintain a low profile. Commonwealth Games organisers on Sunday insisted the event would be "safe and secure" after unknown gunmen fired on a tourist bus outside New Delhi's main mosque. US intelligence agencies have recently warned the Indian authorities about the possibility of another terror attack in India. Any thoughts? I'm not there now, so it may have been that today's events were truly a fluke, but they certainly have to have people thinking twice about going to the games. I'm finding that the hotels have plenty of available rooms during the games - something I did not expect. Even flights don't look to be fully booked. |
It gets better and better...

Incredibly disappointing.

As someone planning to be there in a few days' time, I'd remain more concerned about the physical well-being of persons due to rash driving given the road conditions or even shoddy construction. Then again, I don't even contemplate the idea of living in a government-built designated stay area for the athletic teams.

the less said the better....

I was seeing in BBC the conference by some Mr Mannot who is one of the organising secretaries.. just seeing his overall getup , the way he was presenting himself etc made me want to send all of them to jail for spoiling the image of India big time...:td:
he also said something like 70% of the atheletes residence's have been cleaned and the other 30% will be complete in another 36hrs.. wht has everyone being doing till now :td: It gives me the old dejavu feeling.. our bureaucrats fail us, politicans fail us, we crib/shout and then again go back to our daily lives.. :( |

The roof didn't collapse -- although I expect some of these places won't hold up well even under a minor earthquake -- just a few ceiling tiles. |

India's "yellow journalism" mainstream press (print and TV) can give exaggerating tabloids anywhere a run for their money. :D

But Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee in India, has managed to concoct such a gigantic fiasco on almost all fronts that the decks are now being cleared for Indian athletes to excel across the board and win a fistful of medals that they otherwise would not. |

that's right....it was a false ceiling....not that it makes it any less wrong....but still....
1. An office clerk at the CWG made a typo and ordered "falls ceiling" 2. After all the criticism, Kalmadi and other CWG members tried to hang themselves from the ceiling .. and it collapsed. |
