Transfer in India

Hi all,

I will probably need to connect in India during winter (first week of December), and a lot of reading is scaring me a bit about connection chaos.

I have a choice between connecting in Mumbai, Bangalore or Delhi. Or, I can avoid connection in India altogether, although this is going to impact negatively on my frequent flyer balance :D

Is crossing any of these three airports feasible? Is crossing any of them as awful as I read on several threads?

Please advise :)

Best,
Stefano

INTL-INTL connect in DEL and BOM should be an OK experience. DOM-INTL in DEL or BOM is not for the faint hearted.

BLR is all one building/terminal so both DOM and INTL xfer is fine.

It would be international to domestic and then back on the way out.

Is BLR all right ? If others agree, I'll go for that :) thanks!

if you have enough time between connections then you will be fine in all 3 cities....

BLR is just fine and MAA is a small airport with both terminals about a few hundred yards from each other, so that's fine too. No fog / weather delays there like December in delhi.

By December, DEL T3 would be fully operational. So, both, international to international and international to domestic would be OK in DEL.

For all domestic airlines? I thought it was IC/AI and 9W only at first?

Alternative is connecting in Dubai and flying directly to HYD, which is my final destination

Yes, you are absolutely correct. I had overlooked the situation in which he would be transferring between international and LCC.

I would rather do the DXB - HYD direct.

The other one I would do is MAA or BLR (for the ease of the transfer).

Take DEL only if you are sure your flights will all arrive/leave at T3.

DO NOT take BOM!

Why DXB-HYD for gods sake? Sure EK has at least 2x daily to HYD but those flights are jammed with laborers etc so that you are guaranteed huge queues at immigration, and the customs people love those flights as well because people on that flight pack in stuff like large LCD TVs, gold etc ..

If you're in Italy why not just fly LH, BA etc that fly direct into HYD from Europe?

Well, partly is because it's all flights on the wrong alliances ;-) and partly because those flights do not operate daily.

Most of them connect through India anyways.

The EK connection is the only one with 2 legs from Milan, and by taking a Skyteam flight to DXB I can accrue miles for it at the cost of adding 1 connect in Europe.

Oh, and it costs a good 50% less in eco ;)
