DFW to MAA - which is the best in Y?
Hi all,
I have read a number of threads here and in other websites around.. I am planning a trip to India this May. I am getting deals, most of which are around same fares.. I am confused about which one to get.. These are some of those I think are comfortable. Do let me know which one to get. 1. DFW - EWR - BOM - MAA - Air India 2. DFW - JFK - DEL - MAA - Air India 3. DFW - EWR - BRU - MAA - Jet Airways. I have heard that the JFK - DEL one is good in Y. But is it still maintaining the same way with good leg space and good service?? Do advise me on this. Thanks |
Number 3 ^ as you avoid a change of planes in India!
International to Domestic can be a pain, go throught immigration, collect luggage, recheck, inter airport bus tranfers! |
Thanks for the reply!
I really do not mind going through Immigration and stuff as both airlines of AI give me enough time to do it.. And I have to do it anyways once in Chennai. The thing is that considering the fact that I do need quite some leg space being pretty tall, I would require some comfort.. I have flown number 3 once before on the return sector.. And I pretty much liked it.. Thought if the much hyped about AI product is indeed good, or better than Jet, then why not give it a try?? Especially if the prices are same.. But I want to know whether AI is indeed trustworthy these days?? Or is it just hyped up?? |
I would avoid Air India completely...their seats are simply awful.
I would suggest taking LH or SQ or CX directly into MAA from FRA, SIN and HKG respectively. fyi - MAA is over 105 degrees in May |
Air India on the JFK-BOM/DEL seem very reliable, they have 77Ls and are the crown jewels in the Air India network as far as prestige is concerned.
The aircraft spend literally the whole day at the destination so any technical faults are usually dealt with in a timely manner. Domestically i got no idea regarding Air India but some flightz are operated by Indian Airlines under an Air India flight number. The two airlines are in the process of/or just finished merging to form a united front against Kingfisher/Jet!. |
I would avoid 1 (DFW - EWR - BOM - MAA - Air India ) in your list as EWR-BOM has a stop over in FRA.
My preference is minimum connections so LH would be my first preference and also stop over in Europe is better because both legs of the flights are evenly spaced out. My preference will be 1. DFW-FRA-MAA (LH) 2. DFW-EWR-BRU-MAA (9W) 3. DFW-JFK-BOM-MAA (AI) with JFK-BOM direct flight in a 77L and also the wait time in BOM is very less. 4. DFW-IAH-DOH-MAA (Qatar) 5. DFW-IAH-DXB-MAA (Emirates) Options 3-5 one of the segments is ultra long (14 - 17 hours). |
Hmmm..
Thanks for all the input guys.. I will be booking my flight in a couple of days time.. Mostly I will go with 9W as some people inc. travel agents scare me of AI.. I really wanted to try the JFK - DEL AI product as I read a report which almost convinced me.. One of u guys out there convince me to take AI in the next 2 days pls.. :D Any other factors that I might have to be aware of, do let me know.. No negatives at all against jet?? cmon.. They've been on the sector for over 2 yrs now.. :p |

There is a one stop solution for this trans-oceanic flight:
United Airlines and Lufthansa (both are part of Star Alliance) DWF - FRA (Frankfurt, Germany) - MAA total 21 hours to 24 hours - found it on Orbitz.com Of course you don't get to see what the route is like on Jet Airways and Air India. There is chatter on the internet that Air India will be joining the Star Alliance which provides more options for Star Alliance frequent fliers. In my humble opinion, the less stops the better so it is easier to hunt down lost luggage and the lesser chances of missing connecting flights |
