He does have a large market share but doesnt control 95% of the liquor market. And there is plenty of competition from international brands (bud, carlsberg, fosters etc are all in india, as are the major liquor companies - whyte and mackay, diageo, etc etc) - tieups with existing local players is easier, saves time and money and licensing costs, readymade sales and distribution network etc.
