What to do with AI miles?

I'm about to fly from JFK-BOM, which will earn me about 15,000 miles. But it doesn't really do me any good to accrue miles on AI becuase I don't fly it often.

I have miles on Northwest, American and US Air. I understand that AI is joining *Alliance but hasn't done so yet. Any suggestions?

As an alternative, could I credit the miles to someone else's Lufthansa account? Can you credit miles to a name other than what's on the ticket?

You can get one round trip BOM-BLR or many other destinations from BOM. This tkt can be in any name you desire.

mexxem, thanks for the suggestion but I'm not going back to India anytime soon, so I would like to credit the miles to a different airline.

None of the three you mentioned - NW, AA or US are AI partners. So you can't credit your miles there. You can credit it to your LH Miles and More account, but not to someone else's account.

You do not need to go to India to get the award ticket. The ticket can be issued in your friend's name. There are no capacity controls (unlike most other airlines) and they are treated as full fare ticket.

Good luck
