9W-NW Interline Q
 

Jet Airways website says it has an interline agreemnt with NWA via Mumbai.

My friend is flying Jet from MAA-SIN and connecting on to NWA from SIN to Tokyo onward to USA on a separate ticket.

Is it possible for him to interline his bags from 9W to NW especially when there are two tickets involved. Other wise he has to clear immi/custom and can't come back in since the NW counter will not open until next day morning for him to check his bags in.

Yes, he can interline bags. Ask him to checkin online with NW though .. easier than trusting the 9W through checkin (I have seen cases where your 9W issued interline BP is torn up and a new BP issued)

The 9W counter at MAA could not issue the BP for NWA flights out of SIN. They were able to interline the bags though.

Does interlining of bags usually work pretty well? I flew a few weeks ago MSP-EWR on NW using one NW-issued ticket, and then later the same day EWR-BRU on 9W using a seperate 9W-issued ticket.

I thought about asking for the bags to be interlined but I was worried it would get screwed up and they would get lost. So I collected my bags at EWR and then carried them up to check-in for 9W.

I also worried that NW would do something to my MSP-EWR ticket since I thought the contract of carriage didn't allow you to purchase seperate tickets just to reduce the cost of an itinerary (I did the same thing in reverse on the inbound from Brussels).

Interlining works just fine. And you mean NW hasnt lost your luggage before this?

I spoke with NW CSR last night who confirmed that there is an interline agreement btwn nw and 9W for baggage.

On another note, is there anyway to preselect seats on 9W? My flight is in April?

I have interkined between AI and NW as well as IC and NW. Never had a problem with lost baggage. Checking in at the transfer desk almost ensures your baggae will get on ther NW flight if it arrives in SIN.

Interline has never worked for me. I flew twice by NW/KLM MSP-BOM and connected to 9W both ways. Jet could never ever give me boarding passes at BLR or NAG on my return trips and I had to lug the bags from the domestic to International terminals. This time I tried 9W all the way NAG-BOM-EWR and NW MSP. The lady at the jet counter was not even prepared to give me boarding pass for my BOM-EWR let alone the EWR-MSP. Anyway I had to call for the manager and he had to teach her how to do it. I think there is either a systems problem or more likely a training problem. I had the same problems at MSP while flying out. This time NW could not issue me any boarding tickets for my EWR-BOM tickets and only gave me MSP-EWR boarding passes. But they had no problems at least tagging my bag all the way NAG and transferred them to 9W at EWR. 9W of course does not have a web check-in in the US (I can't believe that) so I had to sit in the NW lounge till late evening, because if I came through the security, I would not be able to get in to the NW lounge again without a 9W boarding pass which would not be until a couple of hours before the 9W flight.

Bottom line internline has never worked for me 9W-NW but has worked for me NW-9W for luggage only (never boarding passes).

Interlining baggage and through checkin (getting boarding passes) are two different things, aren't they?

I have never been able to have my bags tagged through to my US end point while travelling from BLR/NAG by 9W and connecting to NW/KLM. I had to carry the bags myself from one terminal to the other.

Hell yeah - when you transfer from (say) NW international to NW domestic you have to get your bags off the belt and recheck them.

Same thing here. When you start an international leg, your bag goes through customs, security checks etc. So you do have to check your bags again when transfering from 9W domestic to NW international.

Now try flying 9W BOM-BRU and then transfer to (say) DL to ATL there. Your bags will be tagged straight to ATL after you clear security at BOM. You wont have to recheck them at BRU.

This time I flew 9W all the way from NAG-BOM-BRU-EWR. I handed my bags in at NAG and got it at EWR only to dropprf it off outside the customs to a baggage boy, and got it back in MSP. My main problem with interline has been at BOM each time I flew 9W to NW, I had to lug my bags from the domestic terminal to the international terminal.

I had 9W interline my bags to a CO flight at EWR and CO promptly lost the bag. They did locate it and deliver it 2 days later. Good that I was returning home rather than visiting.
