Agreed...
I pass by their premium check-in on the way to the SEN lounge, and it looks awesome - they even commandeered part of the Clipper Lounge section down below to create their own lounge - blowing away 9w's efforts (which are really good, considering they just started flying intercontinental (BRU, etc.)) ....almost makes one want to switch alliances! |

Sadly the lounge can come as a bit of a disappointment, as any good FTer will have researched online and found that ba.con claims that it's a Terraces. In reality we know better. Still, the landside service makes up for it, as it means that you don't have to get to the airport that early at all ^

KLM for Y to Hyd
I have not flown KLM for years. I was recently forced to fly KLM in Y for some personal trips and came back very impressed with their service in Y. The seats and food were excellent. I flew SFO-AMS-AMS and other long haul segments from AMS and was uniformly impressed.
I definitely recommend KLM in Y to HYD over LH. I have flown LH a lot and there is no comparision between KLM and LH in Y. LH J was decent and I don't have a reference point for KLM but friends tell me that it is indeed an extension of their Y service. |
Connecting in India vs Europe
On a flt to Hyd, I would definitely recommend connecting in Europe over connecting in BOM or DEL. DEL is going through fog problems and cascading ATC delays. BOM seems to be effected by traffic overload and challenges of airport revamp as well. All my flts through BOM and DEL have been delayed the past few months. The recommended MCT (Min Connect Time) in BOM and DEL these days is 3 hrs for intnl to domestic transfers.
AMS, FRA, LHR are far better choices to connect for airports in India. Immigration/Customs in Hyd while a little crazy is still not bad. With the new airport, post April 2008, I definitely recommend flying directly to HYD, BLR rather than connect in BOM/DEL. |

If you are on a KL MD11 flight, delays and cancelations seem to be a fact of life |
Take LH
I have done over 30 trips from US to Hyd in last 30 months -- the best routing is via FRA. the A340 is fairly comfortable (at least in business).
You can go through BOM as well but if you do, my suggestion would be to stay overnight and then fly the next morning - plenty of options between 6:30 and 8am |
