Airbus discusses A380 order with Air India

Airbus CEO Tom Enders and CCO John Leahy told reporters yesterday at a press conference in New Delhi that the manufacturer is in talks with Air India regarding a potential A380 order. "We are in discussions with Air India now and we think they would need about 10-12 A380 aircraft as soon as we can deliver them," Leahy said, according to multiple media reports. He said delivery could take place by 2011 if an order is placed soon. Enders added that it was "not an accident" that he traveled to India with Leahy. "India is one of the most important growing markets for us," he said. AI said no decision has been made about a possible order.

...? AI has been a boeing airline for like years now, and all they have in the way of airbuses is some old AB3/AB6 flying short haul regional. IC has been mostly airbus but they are a 319/320 shop, again with a few AB3s in the mix + the IX 738s and soon to be phased out classic classic 732s.

How or where are they going to handle the pain of suddenly adding a bunch of Airbus ultra huge widebodies into the mix? Especially when their 777 ULHs are running mostly empty these days?

Well, if they want to burn money ..
