Are they going to run the DL planes on DEL-SFO or on new routes? Asking because DEL-SFO, which is a money printer given no competition, still has the old angled flat seats in business and you would think you could get higher yields with better seats in business and a premium economy section!

They also don't seem to have loaded the BLR-SFO flight even though a bunch of news articles suggest it is coming back at the end of October.

SFO will get the leased B77L as AI is selling theirs.

Ah, got it. But unclear if they are selling them before they get the new ones, right?

And do the 77Ws not have the range for SFO? I thought AI used to fly them to SFO but could be mis-remembering.

I guess on the plus side, all AI flights to the US will now have lie-flat business instead of the crappy angled flat product on their 77Ls?

AFAIR the B77W can't do SFO. All B77L have the crappy avio interiors angled flat. A few B77W have the same seat as the B787 (Zodiac Lie Flat) but most of the the same angled flat of the B77L: Air India Longhaul B77W B77L B787 Seats

Ahh ok, I thought all the B77Ws had the lie flat seats per Seat Guru. Didn't realize some don't.

77Ws have been used on DEL-SFO multiple times. Sometime early this year when AI was operating HYD-ORD and BLR-SFO, AI had a 77W scheduled for 3/wk DEL-SFO. The flying time for DEL-SFO-DEL is around or less than BOM-EWR or DEL-ORD.

IMO AI should deploy the ex-Delta 777s on DEL-JFK/EWR/ORD where is there is competition from AA/UA. For other routes like BOM-EWR/SFO, DEL-IAD/SFO etc having the old planes should be fine since AI has a monopoly.

B77L have significantly less capacity than B77W. If they used the latter to SFO it was with a weight penalty.

For 14.5-15 hour flying time, AI's 77W do not need a weight penalty. AI has been using the 77W on BOM-EWR/ DEL-ORD for the past 10+ years.

AI applies a weight penalty on BOM-EWR during the winter months when flying time exceeds 16+ hours.

And for the past few days, AI has indeed been using the 77W on DEL-SFO: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/ai173

BOM-SFO flight are now bookable online and BLR-SFO as well. Will these have the new B77Ls? Google Flights shows an angled lie-flat seat.
