Most generous checked baggage allowance for DEL-BOM

Hi everyone. I will be arriving into DEL on Qatar Airways biz award ticket with 2 checked bags (20kg each). I will be continuing on to BOM on a separate ticket, and was wondering which airline has the most generous checked baggage allowance (or least expensive checked baggage fee)?

Also, with 2 checked bags would it work out cheaper to purchase a premium economy ticket or pre-purchase extra baggage allowance? Thanks in advance for any advice from experienced FTers.

Depends on when you're continuing on. Within 24 hours of your international flight some airlines like Indigo etc. have a discounted baggage rate for international travelers who meet this requirement.

You can courier it from Terminal 3 to your BOM destination for around Rs 100 a kilo, Excess Baggage/Luggage Delivery Services ? Door to Door Luggage Courier Services ? Avaan Excess.

The airlines all charge around Rs 450 to Rs. 550 a kilo. They offer discounts if you pre-pay online, vs paying at the baggage counter. The LCC's also offer lower rates per Kg. when you pre-pay & buy 'packages', i.e. a 10 kilo pack.

It may be cheaper to buy an extra seat on AI. Check out this link.

This is the cheaper option. Provided you are having your luggage delivered somewhere you're going to be for a while and can wait for it to arrive. The "by land" option has a delivery commitment of 4-7 days. Even by air is supposed to take 3 days! :)

Also the by air option is only marginally cheaper than for instance getting the international connection baggage rates from Indigo. And you get your bags right away!

Thanks, I will look into Indigo for discounted baggage rate for international travelers. QR flight ETA is 8:45am, so any flight departing after 11:30 the same morning works for me.
Do QR and Indigo code share? I wonder if QR agent in the US can check my bags thru to BOM if i provided them the Indigo PNR?

QR & 6E does code-share but I think you are looking for if they interline and yeah they do. However it doesn't save you anything as you will have to do your customs & immigration in DEL.

Yes, checked bags will be retrieved in DEL, but if QR can tag bags thru to BOM, potentially I should be able to use DEL's bag-drop location (just outside Customs) for international passengers transiting to a domestic flight, rather than using 6E's check-in counter - is that possible? Has anyone had any luck with this approach with interline partner airlines in DEL?

I could be wrong but I don't think 6E has a counter there.

True, 6E doesn't operate out of T3. So, maybe this isn't a viable option after all. Vistara or Air India fly out of T3 and are the more convenient options.

Thank you all for your tips, ideas and suggestions.
