HJR - Khajuraho Airport?

Hi....

Newbie to India air travel.

We are trying to book a flight from DEL to HJR Feb 12, 2020 and noticed all Air India flights indicate SOLD OUT for flexible dates, all classes. My wife looked into 2 other airlines and no flight were offered although they have been previously.

Is something going on at HJR that prevents booking? I didn't find anything with a web search, Air India is impossible to raise on the phone, and the hotels have been non-responsive.

Appreciate any information or suggestions to alternatives to AI as its a 2 stop flight assuming it becomes scheduled and bookable

TIA

-cf

As far as I can tell, the famous former Indian Airlines DEL-AGR-HJR-VNS hopping flight no longer operates. AI406 flies DEL-VNS and on some days continues VNS-AGR-HJR. Of course this is an absurd routing for anyone going DEL-HJR, and also the route will be sold out if any single segment is sold out. You could try booking AGR-HJR and doing Delhi to Agra by train or car. However, this is the segment that is most likely to be sold out since it does not operate daily and also Feb is high tourist season.

Khajurao is very poorly connected by air (or rail for that matter).

But trains might be the best way for you. You can get direct trains to Khajurao from Delhi (subject to availability) or if direct trains aren't available take a train to Jhansi and then hire a car.

i don't think this flight exists anymore....

i once drove to khajuraho from allahabad (now know as prayagraj)....took about 6 hours....there is good connectivity between delhi & allahabad by both air & train....from there you can get a taxi....not ideal but khajuraho does not have the best connections....

AI 406 “exists” but flies to HJR only 3 times a week in a very small 319. I’m not surprised tickets on that 2 stop route aren’t easy to get.

And from what I understand, that’s the only flight to HJR right now. So the entire airport serves 3 flights a week. Well 6 if you include in & outbounds. That too to a popular tourist destination!

FYI - Vistara annouced Khajuraho HJR as a new destination ex DEL today. Route starts early Nov. and the flight from DEL stops at VNS as well.

The HJR/VNS/AGR AI405/6 was launched in 2012 for political reasons and must have lost money like crazy. https://economictimes.indiatimes.com...7.cms?from=mdr

The whole AGR airport situation is also a mess. DEL-AGR makes no sense at all, but seems to be demanded for some reason. At least the netas have done the first step: rename AGR from 'Kehria' to 'Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya' airport.
