Air India lost baggage

So we lost our bag while coming back from London. At Bangalore airport we put in a request to trace the same. The numbers provided by them are useless as they cannot trace the baggage more than 45 days since we have complained. They are not ready/ authorised to give procedure of how to file lost report and seek compensation other than saying call your local office. Any one knows how to get some compensation from air India and whom to approach for the same.

You have to make a list of things that you think were in the lost luggage and make an estimate of the value. Then take that list together with the PIR to the local AI city or airport office and file a claim.

Lost, Damaged and Delayed Baggage - Air India

If a delayed baggage could not be traced for 21 days from the date of Property Irregularity Report , the same may be treated as lost. The compensation claim will be processed as per laid down procedures. All claims to be substantiated with itemized list of contents, description, age together with proof of purchase / ownership of all such items.

So was able to get them to send me the form for compensation after 2 months. The local office in Kolkata did not help much but did give details of seniors in Bengaluru which pushed them to at least send me the form.

Would anyone have a reference point on what to expect from them as compensation. They are asking for a list of items which I am providing as much as I remember and value which is very difficult to ascetrain. The total weight of the bag is 10 kgs and lost sector is LHR-BLR-CCU (bag lost in BLR).

This ticket is covered by the Montreal Convention and thus you are covered for the fair market value of the case and contents up to a maximum of approximately GBP 1,350 (or rough equivalent in whatever currency you paid in). Fair market value does not mean replacement cost. Thus, a GBP 100 shirt worn 5 times is not worth GBP 100. Try to provide an item description along with a purchase cost and purchase date. For more expensive items, the receipt will help.
