Oliver, is this a question or a fact?

AI seems to be running to/from European destinations but with significant delays. Must be a real challenge for the AI staff at DEL dealing with all rebookings caused by e.g. a 5-6 hour delayed flight from CPH.

The AI flights from ARN seemed to have been having rather long delays from when I last cared to look for DEL on the ARN departure flight board.

Yups... ARN and CPH. Some of the US bound flights are doing technical stops now. Not sure if the EU flights are doing that... especially those going further.

EU 788 flights are just takin 90 minutes longer, a bit of extra fuel solves that. The 77W to the US can't manage that and need to refuel.

I do wonder how good AI is about paying out on EC261/2004 claims, no less so when it's not necessarily all that good about re-booking to minimize passenger hassles from cancellations. At some point, "extraordinary circumstances" for such a situation as a prolonged air space shutdown may no longer be an applicable exemption from the compensation provisions.

Don’t think so. If what is typically a 2 plane route needs to be converted into a 3 plane route no airline is going to be able to do that very easily for a temporary closure of airspace.

Otherwise they can move around flight timings to make be compliant. It’s the cancellations that they have to worry about.
