Wonder if it’s Etihad that jinxs everything.

From Etihad to Air Berlin to Jet all of them seem to be in quite a mess... have speculators started shorting Virgin Aus yet?

They are not the largest shareholders there though, SQ holds (nearly) as much share as EY in VA; so they undo the jinx.

One board member resigned:
Mehta has expressed his inability to continue as an independent director on the board "due to his recent time constraints, commitments and other obligations," the airline said in a separate statement.Quoting Mehta, the statement said that in recent months, the call on his time from his other obligations has mounted.

Pilots allowed to leave without notice... (it seems they didn't care to give notice anyway)

Even the 75% salary promised is not being paid...

It seems the cash flow situation continues to be bad. Crew still not paid, but the ultimatum is that they will stick to their 72 h duty roster ?

On international sector also the same story, more expensive than others and full flights (at least in J).
Someone is bleeding the company for their own benefit, that's why.

Well lots happening over the last few days... Tata + SQ looking at a complete buy out - Naresh Goyal + Etihad's stake; Vinay Dubey's email to everyone talking about how they've been improving across many many metrics over the past several months... and then ending it with... "oh yeah but we're still phucked so we're selling the damn thing".

It's quite a risky buy even for the Tatas. Not to mention the Vistara + 9W integration costs (technology (Amadues vs Sabre I think) + people + processes)... it would be a huge mess. It will give Vistara what they couldn't get by themselves... prime slots in every airport in India! Still the risks are too big IMHO. A failed airline could sink the entire Tata enterprise.

I think what 9W needed to do was to come clean on the what they're doing to cut costs - lounge, food etc. in the foreground, aircraft utilization, slots, airports etc. and other processes in the background to cut costs... so that people know that's it's temporary till things get better. That would create much more loyalty towards the airline than finding out you're being shortchanged while you're flying. But I think 9W leadership thinks "yeah that's not going to be our problem much longer so let's not talk about it".

25 flights cancelled yesterday... apparently because of pilots striking for not being paid... 9W denies it saying it's a "roster error". Given how much 9W's PR generally lies just the timing of this makes you pretty sure that it's a pilot strike and probably with more to come.

Also, to brag... if I may refer to post #2 of this forum. I think 9W could have read it and sold long time back rather than wait for things to completely fall apart.

maybe not....the indian aviation sector does not have space for 3 full service carriers....2 on the other hand would work out a lot better....

Tata has stakes in Vistara and Air Asia India. I'm sure they have to adjust some of that for Jet to fit into their strategy. The problem is that 9W/S2 is a 25 year old carrier that has grown over time and is a mixture of many things. Neither or which fit to Vistara or Air Asia.

Tata could wait and let Jet go under and buy the best bits of the operation, but that has the risk of someone else coing in from behind and leaving them empty handed. Very tricky situation. If they buy a big stake now as is then Vistara most certainly has to go.

Vistara/Tata buying Jet now would yield the same result as Jet buying Sahara.. It would be a clusterf**k of the highest order. Indigo would have no interest in buying them out either..
The only 2 people who have interest in keeping them alive is Goyal ji and Etihad.. no one else right now have any stake and any value to gain out of it.. IMHO..

The best thing for Vistara would be let Jet die out the natural course, and then grab the slots as best as possible.. the market share of Jet will redistribute, based on darwin's principle..

Something is happening...

To save his airline, Goyal is willing to consider handing over the operational reins to the Middle Eastern carrier in exchange for a fresh cash infusion through equity and soft loans, with the founder of the airline continuing as its chairman.

Struggling carrier Jet AirwaysNSE -2.03 % Ltd said on Monday it has appointed Robin Kamark as nominee director of stakeholder Etihad Airways PJSC with effect from Dec. 1.

So another addition to their "ehancements".. Now free meal in economy is only on the Flex fare (highest fare class).. rest all is buy on board.. Basically they are slowly turning in to a LCC.. get ready for more "enhancements" in near future..

That is bad news.... 9W will shut shop shortly with the way it’s going. What’s even worse news is that this means that AI and UK will follow suit and that’s the end of meals in Y in India!

And that’s only good news for the crappy crap over priced crap that the airports sell you.

Or maybe encourage people to eat beforehand at home or carry dry food (sandwiches) to eat onboard
