DEL Int'l Transfer from 9W to CX on two separate tickets

Hi Everyone, Im flying KTM-DEL on 9W and then onwards to HKG on CX on two separate tickets. I have one bag to check-in and I will try to ask 9W to check it through to HKG. Question is do I need a visa to transfer at DEL as I would like to stay airside but am concerned 9W may deny boarding if I do not have a visa. I've been to India many times and the process may be hit or miss. Anyone knows my best course of action? Thanks

I flew to DEL last week (writing this from DEL as we speak) and I had to present my visa on check-in at BRU, else I would have been denied.

However I do think that if you can show your second ticket proving your HKG connection you will be fine. But I recommend double checking that.

In case you need a visa. You can easily apply for one online here: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in
This is rather quick. But will take 4 working days minimum.

Thanks but you are in India and not transfering airside so visa is required.

My flight leaves tomorrow so no way to do visa. I will bring confirm for my HKG connection and I do see 9W has interline luggage agreement with CX so it is doable and legal. I know DEL has a transfer facility for Int'l to Int'l in same terminal (3) so it sounds it is really up to the 9W check-in agent @ KTM depending on how she/he feels that day... meh.

In India you shouldn't have a problem, as long as you stay in terminal 3 you don't pass immigration. It's at boarding you can have potential issues, I don't think you should, if you however catch a TA in a bad mood you might.

Do you mind posting an update with the result?

Succes and good luck!

Yes please let us know. A lot of people on FT have asked this question about transiting BOM & DEL on separate tickets. Does the transit desk issue the onward BP by calling the airlines?

Actually if the transit desk can’t issue a new BP for OP then he will probably be denied boarding at the KTM no matter what the agent’s mood. Otherwise it will be smooth sailing all the way through.

The way it should and has worked in the past is that the transfer desk in DEL issues a bp either directly or by calling the airline. I don't think this process is the issue. The issue is the visa which while there's no requirement in my case a checkin agent may not know and refuse boarding.

According to the result of a query in Expertflyer 9W *can* check baggage through on to CX. However if they are willing to do so on two separate tix -I don't know.

depending on your nationality and the time between the two flights - isn't there an option to do Visa on arrival in DEL or has this been replaced by the eVisa scheme that the OP doesn't have enough time for?

good luck!

I understand the transfer desk will help to re-check your bag in DEL. They used to escort you to do so without the need for a visa. In any case, pretty sure Jet will tag the bag properly in KTM.

I'm European and my layover is about 7 hours. There is a process which is called transfer without visa for layover less than 24 hrs. Im afraid getting a visa now would be too late. Flight is later this afternoon and will report back with the findings.

your biggest problem will be trying to board your flight to del without a visa....if you can get through this hurdle then you won't have a problem....

That is exactly right, even though it shouldn't as there is a process for this and a visa is not required in our case.

For the sake of helping future travelers I am copying this link with a semi recent experience:
