Problems with Flight to Varanasi?
 

I want to book a trip to Varanasi in May with Jet airways and it is showing no availability in Skyscanner and Expertflyer.

I did a quick search on line and it appears that the airport is going to be closed for 2 months and that some other airlines have cancelled trips.


Does anyone know what is happening?

i have booked flights to varanasi, both in may & june....haven't received any updates yet about an airport closure from both ai (for may) & 9w (for june)....

was anybody lucky with booking flights on Air India or Jet Airways to Varanasi in May.

On the other hand, has anyone got a cancellation email?

some more news. AI has suspended bookings for its flights to Gaya which was an extension of the Varanasi.

It looks now like next week there may be some clarity.

As a non Indian who enjoys visiting the country, It is just frustrating how bad the whole thing was coordinated and organised.

Runway Extension/ Repavement
 

Apparently VNS runaway is scheduled to get an extension/repavement starting this month. As expected, this has been getting delayed for a while, and the airport authority, AAI, and airlines are unaware of the latest updates and not in touch with each other.

Currently the runway is suppose to be open between 6 - 9 and 18 - 21 only. And should be ready in 2-3 months.

Hence, small airline Vistara has completely cancelled VNS flights indefinitely due to uncertainty and not having regular schedule between the hours mentioned above.

And the others (Jet, AI, Indigo, Spice) are allowing booking for flights that already ran between those hours with full service schedule to return in June.

I've just been notified by my travel agent that our flights with AI from Delhi to Varanasi on March 18th have been cancelled and also our flight from Varanasi to Agra 2 days later.
They have now replaced the flights with Indigo for the to flight to Varanasi and the second flight has been replaced with an AI flight taking us back to Delhi where we will then travel by car to Agra.
No idea why! :confused: Time to practice going with the flow I think.
