New Air India EWR-LHR-AMD flight starting Aug 15

few questions:

a) will this impact current EWR-BOM-AMD flight? (Probably not as they are actually two different flights (EWR-BOM and BOM-AMD sharing same flight number but different equipments)

b) slots for this flight for AI at LHR must have come from somewhere (seems like LHR-DEL frequency may be taking a hit but will LHR-BOM take a hit?)

c) current EWR-BOM-AMD flight (immigration/customs continue to be at final destination , AMD, correct?)

interesting....i used to fly to nyc via lhr very frequently when ai operated this route & was quite disappointed when they shut it down....i wonder what the reason is to fly via lhr again????

both london and newark have substaintial O/D traffic with AMD
(this particular crowd also travel a lot between LON and EWR and have strong preference for AI in spite of AI's reputation)

(some of the obvious benefits in Y for this crowd:
a) comparatively much better food
b) senior citizen treated with respect
c) while staff may not be perfect, at least it is one without typical racial prejudices

No impact expected on EWR-BOM-AMD or LHR-BOM. Immigration and customs will still be in AMD.

So the extra slot(s) at LHR are coming from which flight then?

DEL will see a reduction in frequency from 3 daily to 2 daily

Interesting. Thanks.

slots

in theory, two slots are needed.

One for to departure to AMD and one for departure to EWR.

But since this flight is thrice per week, reducing DEL flight once per day evens out slots on per week basis.

Interesting point. What would AI do when it goes daily?

It appears AI dropped the AMD-BOM tag.

What terminal will this flight go to in LHR? I've been looking on Expertflyer for early January and it indicates this flights to/from AMD is at Terminal 4 and this flight to/from EWR is at Terminal 2. Which obviously doesn't make any sense, unless they're pushing it from one Terminal to the other with transit passengers on board (or making them transit from one terminal to the other).

The LHR-EWR segment (using 5th freedom rights) is currently the cheapest way to fly between the two cities both in J and Y. Wonder what happens if pax are offloaded or if they have mechanical problems given its only 3x times a week.

For the J passengers, AI usually accommodates you on other *A carriers - For Y, they would try and push back as many pax as they can to travel in next available AI flight and endorse remaining to available *A seats!

Not a big hussle!!

Does anybody know if one must get off the plane in LHR or stay on board for 2 hrs?
