It seems now we can't transfer points to AA/Hyatt or other international airlines from HDFC Diners Black card They have also reduced the redemption on Jet Airways/Air India.

Redeem Reward Point for AirMiles across Jet Airways (JPMiles), Air India (Air India Miles) or Singapore Airlines (KrisFlyer Miles). 1 Reward Point = 0.70 AirMile.

I personally feel the best use of Diners points is booking flights through their engine.

1. Don't need to deal with transferring miles.
2. No award space availability and booking issues.
3. You earn miles miles on the flights flown which further reduces the redemption rate.

They don't have multi city option when booking flights via them..

Ok, this totally sucks. The redemption partners they had was the best antidote to Diners' limited acceptance.

I wouldn't be going out of my way to put everything on 10x websites now.

A little glad now that the Diners Black upgrade didn't come through in time.

In addition to no award availability issues, you have a wide choice of airlines. So one can book the best option for a particular destination and not be bound by the mileage currency.

How is the miles required through their booking engine compared to airline mileage requirment ?

It basically converts your miles into some INR by bank's own valuation , and then uses those INR towards your ticket.

Cash value of points is great if you want simple itineraries in Y.

The moment you start building fancy itineraries in J/F, cash value is very low.

For example you can do something like this:
BLR-SIN (20 hour transit) - NRT - ICN (20 hour transit) - HKG - DEL
All in J for 80k miles + some taxes.

You can't do anything even close to this using 1,00,000 INR cash

Could you please share what airline does this itinerary?

I've found on most F/J return flights the mileage requirement plus taxes is significantly higher than the fare in INR if you book a month or so out.

I think this was true when the redemption rate was 1 RP=1 INR and 1 RP=1 airline mile. This has recently changed to 1 RP=1 INR and 1 RP = 0.7 airline mile. Now one will need to analyse each situation separately, based on each airline's mileage redemption features.

I just did:
BLR-KUL-SIN(20hr stopover)-HKG-ICN
For 40k AA miles + US$55 all in J

Just a week back, HDFC was allowing to convert miles to AA miles at 1:1

I agree with you. I was comparing with before the change.

Now, I guess paid Y on the website may be our best option (Unless someone wants to use the miles to fly SQ suites)

Just curious about your routing. Did you explicitly want the 20 hr layover at SIN?
Otherwise BLR-(KA)-HKG-(CX)-ICN has plenty easy availability in J for nearly every day I look.

Yes, I wanted a day in Singapore.

This is also the point, with miles we can design multicity itineraries and pick flights with flatbed instead of recliners.
