Bad Idea? Two separate tickets

I was trying to get a flight from ICN-BOM, and for some reason the last leg from DEL-BOM was coming up sold out from every airline expect AI when it finally tried to book.

I was able to book ICN-DEL on an Asiana codeshare with AI (Flight 317 ICN-HKG-DEL).

I also was able to book a separate ticket AI flight 317 DEL-BOM. I have just over two hours in DEL. Did I make a horrible mistake trying to put together two separate tickets? I figured being the same airline (and even flight number) all the way through I should have no issues trying to through check a bag and be somewhat protected in the case of any irrops.

I believe if it is the same flight number you should be comfortable if the agent through checks you to Mumbai. Though I am not sure maybe someone else would be able to confirm.

2 hours is more than enough time to connect in del & i've managed to get through check-in on ai on 2 different pnrs so that shouldn't be a problem as well....but i'm not sure you would be protected in case of any irrops....
