Air India FFP is a joke

Today I learnt how some Airline can damage their business with their own hands. I am FF with Air India and in past have redeemed miles to take some small rides within the country. For first time I thought of traveling to Srilanka from Bangalore which amounts to some 7K miles per side on economy class including via flight from Chennai. Here comes the surprise, if you try to book the flight through web-site not using miles it costs 19,200 INR and if you use your miles then it costs 19,520 INR and drinks 14000 miles as well. Mailed them , as usual not expecting any swift reply.

Just for fellow milers , take care if you opt for Air India programmes. You never know what might come of the hat !!

As much as I'd love to share your view, don't just single out AI for that. fuel surcharges across a lot of airlines are pretty high. Take jet for example. Or take emirates for example, as stated in this post http://boardingarea.com/onemileatati...ates-25-bonus/

unfortunately you don't have much choice....jet is equally bad when it comes to charging taxes & surcharges on award tickets....

but where are you getting those figures from????there is no direct flight between blr-cmb so you would have to buy a separate blr-maa-blr ticket & a separate maa-cmb-maa ticket....both these return flights are coming to inr 10,570 & 15k miles....

You are not comparing like for like either, what are the conditions (changes/cancellation) of cash and award tickets?

Agree on BA from UK.. but excellent on short distance redemptions in the US.. but thats another story:D

economy international redemptions have no value on either jet airways or air india. domestic redemptions are great value for both air india and jet. as for international, only business redemption has value.
