Just applied online for the Sapphiro card.
No problems whatsoever.
There was an option for self employed professionals/businessmen.

that option leads to the page where they say, under current policies we can't issue you this card. then it offers a card which is secured by a fixed deposit lien.

the americans even provide an online appraisal and approval and send you the card in the mail. we are regressive like that. we want signatures, photographs and what not and then a new longish human appraisal process.

which option did you choose in 'type of employment'????if you chose 'self employed professional' then you get the following message:

Thank you for your interest in ICICI Bank Credit Cards.
We regret to inform you that as per our current policies, we are unable offer the cards shown to you at this time.
You can however, apply again on our website after 6 months or avail our Instant Credit Card now.

Pretty sure I chose self employed professional.
But I did not get this message.
Also got a confirmation call from ICICI to verify all the details.
Will know for sure when they come to pick up my documents tomorrow.
But then again with the likes of ICICI and HDFC one can never be sure.

This is very silly. Most of the good clientele will be self employed.

ICICI do come up with some funny rules like.

OT but I hate the fact that they make you sign sheets upon sheets of conditions when you take a business loan through most Indian banks. Like you are really gonna sit there and read the 20 odd pages with writing so small that it would take you hours to go through it.

i think this recent policy change is across a few banks and not just icici. Citi is not issuing new credit lines to self employed as well.

That makes two of us (kind of). I am (happily) on commission, though not technically employed by a company.

That makes no sense - I believe "retarded" is the appropriate technical term. Whilst I see the risk there is with certain entrepreneurs (small-time, suspect etc) there must be something more to it, like self-employed with income above a certain amount or something. A blanket ban seems, well, retarded.

While I'm also a corporate wage slave (I know there's someone with that ID here on FT ), I find it odd to have those running their own businesses banned. I'd think that most premium cabin flying would come from these people, especially with the economy being down and what not and lots of organizations restricting flying to economy cabins. And this being a travel credit card, I'd have thought they would think of this when defining eligibility!

They approved the blue one of mine - told them to wait 2 weeks for the documentation as I'm quite busy...

I *shiver* at the thought of having a *second* ICICI credit card!!

You should have seen how hard I tried to get their co-branded SQ one - but never succeeded! Do they even have that offered now?
