The close second is arguable.. the first position is not.. I found GOI still quite good.. try Patna airport sometime.. but i guess if we are only talking "Major" airports, then Patna doesn't really count..

True, GOI can be horrifying all year, especially at lunchtime. In their defence, Dabolim does have a lot of restrictions and limitations they have to work with.
Why they haven't ever seriously looked at building a whole new airport and leaving the Navy alone defeats me. Goa probably could do with two airports. At least if one were located a little north of Panjim it should be able to draw enough traffic.
That said, what's really irritating is the new-ish diktat on using buses. It's so annoying at small airports, when the plane is parked within spitting distance of the terminal door, yet they make you take a bus. The distance between terminal and plan can be shorter than the distance between terminal and plane.

If you think goi is chaotic terminal side , air side is an even bigger mess. That is one airport I would not want pax to walk to aircraft even If it's parked right next to terminal. People who work everyday at the air side have been known to be hit by vehicles at lesser congested airports. Throw in a mix of a first time traveller jay walking on the Tarmac, well no one would want responsibility of that pax.
For example, Baroda airport: it's doorway - flower bed - plane. That's it. The plane is literally within spitting distance!
I understand somewhat the reasoning, but it's still silly to walk 20 metres to get on a bus that will drive 30 metres, when you could have just walked 10 metres.

But i do agree that it's a risky proposition, specially given all the first ime flyers that we encounter..
on a different note, are there really any more "first time flyers" these days...??? I thought that was something that happened only between 2004- 2008.. with the flight prices having increased to pre liberalization period, I don't think there are any genuine "FFF" any more at the airports..

Fair enough. I've not been to some of those airports (not ever, or not in a long while). Then who imposes these requirements if they're not uniform? Local airport management?
And I do agree with people wandering off and generally being clueless, though I still think 20 metres (not exaggerating here) at a practically deserted airport doesn't really amount to a risk.

Hahah... I guess Goa's almost up there with Maharashtra when it comes to infrastructure. I say almost because I don't think Maharashtra can be beat there days.
Its odd, really, that the three western states western have possibly the best air connectivity in the country, yet a big part of the core - the massive triangle between Panjim, Pune and Hyderabad has no air connectivity to speak of.
O and since this topic is (no longer) about Milan... Doesn't Milan have 4 or 5 operational airports within a 100 km radius?

Okay I just opened that link.
Is Mopa really at the northern tip of the state? If so, then does it really make sense to move the commercial airport there? They may as well revive Ratnagiri or something. And what about people from the south? Would they have to go to Mangalore?
Goa's not that tiny a state and air traffic is rather significant, relatively speaking. An airport a little bit north of Panjim makes far more sense if Dabloim is to be replaced. A bit further in the future, there will likely be enough demand for another new airport the south-central region.
Of course, to use my own words, better stick to goals that don't need divine intervention.
