Jet Privilege Platinum - Is it worth ?

Hi All,

I did a few back-to-back international travel in the last 4 months and as a result, I am now a gold JP member. I got another 6 weeks to earn 10.7K miles to get to platinum as fast-track upgrade. My question is: Is it worth fighting for ? I may not get any official trips in the next 6 weeks. So I would have to make compulsory international holiday to earn those extra miles, which means spending at least INR 40-50K. Not sure if thats worth for the membership and the 5 upgrade vouchers. Another plus, apart from the vouchers, is that I would at least remain an elite member for next three years. I am not sure how much travel I might do in the next couple of years, though I imagine at least one international trip every year.

BTW, is there a market to trade upgrade vouchers ? ;-)

Thanks

welcome to ft udan_khatola....if you won't be doing too much travel then i don't think platinum is worth it for you....a few great perks of platinum are:

non-expiry of miles....this is a great feature for someone who travels a lot & is saving up miles....

upgrade to business from cheapest economy fare....another great feature as upgrades vouchers are only valid on a higher economy fare but for plats even the cheapest fare would be valid....

5 upgrade vouchers....enough for a one way upgrade between north america - india....

i have received a few free upgrade due to my plat status & once got an upgrade from business to first....but these are not published benefits & are rare....

IIRC, the OP will need 180 posts and 180 days of membership on FT before that gets unmasked. And a first post with the word "trade" in it, might make babu et al splutter on their chai lattes. ;)

My apologies. I should have realized that raising this would be banned even without reading the rules. I don't mean to tr**e them though, but redeeming vouchers or miles is a bit hard on 9w. Out of my last 3-4 trips, I could only once upgrade on JFK-BOM. I have few vouchers and 150K miles still unused and not sure if could use them meaningfully. May be I should donate them here close to expiry. Is that allowed ? ;)
