Which Domestic Indian Airline would you recommend

Hi there
We're going to be in India in Jan. and will flying to a few spots in India using Indian domestic airlines. We've never flown within India before and were wondering if anyone would suggest a good and reliable airline to use. Using sky scanner and cleartrip, we were able to pull up a few choices for the same route. We don't mind paying a bit more just to get a more reliable airline ie. less known delays, service, etc.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have been told by my Indian based clients that Jet Airways is the way to go. Followed a distant second by Kingfisher.

for efficiency and consistency - Jet Airways
for bling & IMO better food - Kingfisher Airlines (i prefer bling over efficiency)

both are fairly reliable - 9W possibly more so (though i have never encountered any problems with IT)

a word of caution, both airlines also operate low cost services - Jetlite / Jet Konnect and Kingfisher Red - IMO though perfectly adequate, these may not be to your liking

Manuc summed it up really well.

Jet if your looking for excellent on-time performance.
Kingfisher if your looking for a marginally better product in terms of food and in-flight entertainment.

If your looking to go the low cost route I'd recommend JetLite, KF Red, Go Air and Indigo.

best full service (acc to me!) is 9w/jet as of now. most professional airline is Indigo/6e and they have an obsession with being on time...

The websites will tell you.

JetLite is prefixed S2
Jet Konnect is 9W, the same as Jet Airways, but the websites will say something along the lines of "operated by Jet Konnect"

The same applies for Kingfisher/Kingfisher Red

For Jet and Kingfisher.. 4 digit flight numbers (9W1234 / IT1234) indicate Jet Konnect / KF Red flights while full service flights have 3 digit flight numbers. JetLite is coded S2.

jet airways also sells jetlite on its own website. then it will come with a 9w sign but it will be a 4 digit number to flight starting with 7...7xxx

just stick to jet & you won't have a problem....this is a great airline....

i have noticed a steady decline in kingfisher over the years....they still have their moments though & have the most comfortable business class domestic seat....

ai is also not as bad as people make them out to be....the airline definitely has its issues but once in the air they are a good airline....

if you want to go with lcc airlines then go air & indigo would be your best bets....

Thanks A2A and Anish. So we can conclude it here.

3 Digit Flight Number ITXXX indicates King Fisher
3 Digit Flight Number 9WXXX indicates Jet Airways
4Digit Flight Number IT1234 indicates KF Red
4Digit Flight Number 9W1234 indicates Jet Konnect
4Digit Flight Number 9W7XXX indicates Jet by Jet Lite

Jet Lite don't make any confusion, since it has a different airline code S2.

Don't you think that lighter versions of Jet and Kingfisher would be quite adequate for someone used to being nickel and dimed by U.S. airlines?

you bet, Indian LCCs allow free check in luggage, seat assignment for free or a nominal cost u have to pay extra for food which hardly matters for short segments

having said that the OP was willing to spend extra so why not get the full experience ^
