9W - Orphaned 9k miles expiring. Best use??

Dont really fly 9W but have about 9k miles -expiring 31 March 2011 - from a SIN-BOM-SIN flight I had taken once.

Based in SIN, and redemptions from here are all in excess of my balance

Any suggestions for how best to use the miles? If I book a random ticket within India, will it be valid for one year, and can I change the routing later?

Thanks

You could just trade it on coupon connection and book a oneway domestic (which is 6k odd miles).

A question came to my mind.. what if someone makes a award ticket say DEL - JAI.. then later cancels it .. With this JP will refund his miles after some deduction.. Can we rebook another route with these miles or will these expire immediately ( since 3 yrs have passed ) when these were recredited to the account ?? anyone has any experience on this ??
If this is possible, it may seem route change is also possible with some minor (500 points max) penalty ?

Any reward tickets cancellation leads to the points going back to the account in the same sequence they came in [FIFO in digital parlance]. so for instance if you booked a ticket with June 2011 expiring miles for travel in december 2011, and cancel in nov 2011 due to whatever reasons, the block of miles expiring in june 2011 will not be credited. the t&c very clearly state that!

Or you can transfer the miles at a cost of Rs. 200 per 500 miles into someone's account and they get a 12 month extension... 9W's answer to Krisflyer's pay to extend miles...

FWIW, Rs 200 for 500 miles is a lot.. which makes it about INR 2400 (in miles ) + INR 500 approx for a OW award ticket on MAA - HYD sector.. very pricey IMO..
better to take some short trip for using the same or booking a award ticket for later.. dates can be changed as informed so this seems better..
