JNB 9W flights

Hi there,

Anyone know of the service on BOM-JNB vv on 9W is like in Premiere. Seat maps show the 9W config herringbone seating thankfully and meals are listed as DB on 9W 242 and LS on 9W241...

Any menu's / winelists?

Also, how is the Bidair lounge that they use?

Any info would be appreciated as I am debating between them and EK. EK biz is not nearly as comfortable but origin EX MAA it cuts out an overnight layover in BOM on the return...

thanks

Good question, also how does 9W compare to SAA? Both J class and Y class?

EK has dwindling service standards thesedays.

On seats I would definitely say 9W, given that I've flow on SAA leased aircrafts by 9W. On service, I'd hazard a guess at saying 9W given my experiences there, but don't have any with SAA.

Am planning Feb travel most likely on 9W - will update then...

Would anyone be able to tell me, if I can check in bags from Mumbai through to Maun, Botswana via JNB?

Reason I ask, we won't have visas for SA - so plan to just walk through the transfers section of the airport to the terminals and collect our boarding pass in the airline counter in the "transfers" area.

Is this through baggage check in possible via 9W? I have done it this way while flying SAA in the past.....

Thanks in advance.

it depends on the carrier you are using onward from JNB and if they have a baggage agreement with 9W. Best thing to do is ask 9W if its possible to do a through checkin.

Please double check that this is possible and permitted. South Africa has recently re-introduced mandatory transit visas for passengers in transit to/from neighboring countries, so airside transit may no longer be possible to Botswana.

Ok. Thanks for all the responses. Shall check with 9W as to transit rules and regulations.

Apparently, 9W does not have a tie up with Air Botswana, where the baggage can be tagged all the way to Maun. I am able to do this if I fly SAA - so unfortunately, won't be able to give 9W a try this time.

Glomming on here: I have never flown 9W internationally, but I am considering it for BOM-JNB in October. Is the 9W seat in Premiere a flat-bed on this route? The photos on the website show both flat-bed and non-flat-bed seats in this class.

I'm much more concerned about this than with any soft-product considerations.

Thanks!

All 9W A330 J class is a flat bed. The two configs are herringbone J and "old" 2-2-2 J, but both are fully flat horizontal beds. Soft product (F&B) is identical too.

Main difference is IFE and the greater privacy in the herrigbone config.

Also JNB is almost always the new Herringbone product. While both 330's are very good products, the herringbone is far superior IMHO and I think most 9W fliers agree. It's a great flight, service is very good - lounge in JNB is crap though they use the Bidair lounge there.
