BMI- Jet flight: baggage allowance?
 

I am flying EDI-LHR-BOM on the 31st of Dec. the EDI-LHR leg is with bmi, which allows 20 kgs checked in baggge and th LHR-BOM is with Jet which allows 46 kgs (both figures found from the websites). Now, my quesion is-

While checking in my luggage at Edinburgh which allowance should I be getting?

Has anyone travelled this route with bmi-Jet before? What was you experience? Is bmi strict with excess baggage?

I don't have any experience with BMI on this but have fought with BA quite a number of times about this. The right answer is Yes you should be allowed the long haul baggage allowance if you are on one ticket. Now I don't know how well trained the BMI staff is at EDI but at NCL the BA Swissport staff are really bad! People go on about lounge dragons, these people are check-in dragons! They don't want to hear anything.

I have traveled on BA/Jet ticket 4 times in the last year and have been allowed the long haul allowance 3 times with major issues. By this I mean that I have to show them a page from their own training manual that states that if on one ticket then the higher baggage allowance applies. Last month she was so rude that I had to pay 35 pounds per bag and that also till LHR where I had to pick up my luggage and check-in again! She would not even look at her own training manual and claimed that no manager was around! :mad:

How ever I feel BMI staff will be better. Yes you are allowed the long haul allowance, its up to you to convince the under trained check in staff.

I think you should be fine though as BMI and Jet have a code share agreement now so they should be aware of each others luggage allowances.

Have been confused on this for a long time since my experience has varied..

From your experience, can you share the scenarios where ticketing under 1 e-ticket number is possible or under 1 PNR... My experience with this has confused me to say the least :confused:
If some airlines in a trip dont have codeshare / partnership agreements, wont there be separate tickets issued for those legs or can the complete journey be ticketed under 1 PNR and 1 E-ticket number ??

Yeah you can ticket mostly all code share fares under one PNR. If there is a not a code share then its still possible. I ticket 9W/BA fares quite often and there is no code share agreement between them and its always under one PNR/eticket number.

You can get mostly all point to point fares under one PNR. Say if there is a YY fare from DEL to NYC and that allows multiple carriers then you can fly any carrier between these two cities who participate in the YY scheme and ticket under one eticket. I have managed to get 7 different carriers on one ticket a couple of years ago. All under one PNR and from 3 different alliances.

it would be a good idea to call jet & ask....if the answer is 'yes' (which it should be) then just ask them to send you an email stating the same....carry that with you to the airport....

I am in the same situation. I am flying from Dublin to LHR by bmi and jet airways to Mumbai. I called BMI twice and on both occassions the call centre staff did say that they will allow 46 kg if the entire journey is on a single ticket. but when I asked if there is a codeshare between BMI & Jetairways they said NO which is confusing. would really appreciate if you could tell me your experience once you fly on Dec 31.
