Smoking area in COK

Selfish question, but any idea if there is a smoking area in the Cochin International Airport (COK)? Will be taking a COK-MAA flight in a couple of days, and wanted to see if I need to wait outside the airport for as long as I possibly can, or if I could enjoy a smoke inside, like I would do in MAA.

On a generic note, and though this might be against the grain of general public thinking, would it be wise to have a thread detailing the availability of smoking sections at various airports?

I was at COK last month. I don't remember a smoking area anywhere in the terminal. I don't think there is one.

:D

For the record, there IS NO smoking area in the airport. In fact, most guards and airline staff suggest you don't smoke outside the terminal building either.

However, at the far left of the (domestic?) departures section, there's a large waste bin that seems to be the positional marker, with quite a few cig butts strewn about, so I contributed - again, for the record, I ensured that my cig was stubbed out completely and put it in the waste bin, instead of littering the place around.

Quite true. AFAIK:

MAA, HYD, DEL - Smoking areas after clearing security

CCU - No designated areas, but smoking is "permitted" outside the terminal building, at the drop-off point

BLR, BOM, PNQ, COK - No designated areas, but smoking is "permitted" outside the terminal building

Any others to add?

I'm afraid my data is a bit dated as I gave up the habit a while ago, but:

The Goa airport had (circa 2008) a small smoking room on the upper level past the lounge but outside security.

Lucknow airport has an outdoor starcase leading to the lounge/restaurant area upstairs where I never had a problem lighting up.

Quite right - my info was also as of Jan 2008, so wasn't sure if I should include it !

This is very much still there. Its where I usually have my first puff after a week of no-smoking while visiting the parents.

Actually there is one just before the departure gates at the Goa airport (in front of Gate 1B I think). It is a small room with a glass door .... and non smokers should sit as far away from that as possible as I could smell the smoke even 50 feet away in the waiting lounge.

To set the record straight on BOM:

Smoking area available after security, opposite gate A5 - only for terminal 1.
Terminal 2 - see quoted post above.
