Transit Visa required for Terminal 2 to Terminal 3

I am thinking of flying to Kathmandu but with BA to Delhi, and then onward with Jet or Kingfisher a few hours later.

BA will be using terminal 3, and the KTM flight from terminal 2.

I have spoken to the Indian embassy in London and they say that a transit visa is not required if you are transferring from international to international. But they are unsure if you are transferring to a different terminal.
BA are similarly unsure, and the DEL airport website does not give information about t2 to t3.

Does anyone have any idea, what the situation is likely to be?

Like everything in India, there will be no action taken or information disseminated until the first passenger shows up not knowing what to do. You might as well be the guinea pig! :)

Jokes aside, there will probably be an airside shuttle between the terminals.

you should be fine....i was talking to some people who work for airport authority & while i did not ask this specific question, they did tell me that there will be shuttle buses taking people to & fro from one terminal to the other....

Thanks very much for the replies.

I would hope it would be ok, but my concern is that the bus transfers are landside, as they are between terminals 1 and 2. A transit visa is required if going between 1 and 2.

G-BOAA - Caution

Unless BA are prepared to do a through check in you may struggle, as to collect your bag you will need to clear imigration, which will mean requiring a visa before you leave the UK.

I assume you will be purchasing a separate ticket, and i have found that usually BA are only prepared to do through check with One World Carriers.

I would call up BA and ask them about their through check, even better send an email so if it is a positive responce you have something to show at check-in should they decide that it is suddenly not possible!

sorry double post!

Providing your luggage is checked in all the way through!

not necessarily....

while it would be ideal if this were the case, there are ways around it....

i have a friend who lives in paris....just last week her brother & wife came to del on an air india flight & were then connecting the same day on jet to kathmandu....they did not have an indian visa....the airline helped transfer their bags & they picked them up in kathmandu....

The airlines are pretty good in DEL to facilitate INT-INT xfers. Since the luggage doesn't end up in the public area its pretty easy for them to find and retag. TG did this in BKK too.

While the consensus (and I agree) is that you are legally allowed to do a INT-INT transfer at DEL w/o a visa, keep in mind that you'll need to convince the BA check-in person that you are able to travel to India without a visa. This may be the hard part. (I have no experience with this, but I've seen and heard of check-in agents refusing to check you in because you don't have the visa they expect you to have, even if that visa is not required in your case.)

Yes, I can vouch for this.. some check in agents will not alllow u.. I had a similiar experience once when coming from Sydney to India via Spore.. I wanted a 2 day halt in Spore and the ticket was made tht way.. but in the airport in SYD, the checkin agent was not allowing me to check in saying i reqd a visa for spore.. she refused to believe tht i could get VoA in Spore for upto 3 days.. Only when I logged into the net and showed her the spore tourism website stating the same, she relented.. so my advise is also better safe than sorry.. speak to the airline to confirm .. indian embassy has said tht intl to intl transfer is no problem and this shd hold good nothwithstanding the terminal change..

You are right that the agent checking you in is the crucial link. Even when you are right, if you can't convince the agent, you can't get on that plane.
Your situtaion was slightly different as you were staying in SIN not transiting.

u r right, but the intention of sharing this info was even if there is a rule, the important thing is tht the check-in agent and his team shd be aware of it..else there may be problems..If possible, the op should try and get something in writing from the embassy ( difficult) or from the airline and take the printout of the same or maybe even wrting to delhi airport where we hv a contact us link..http://www.newdelhiairport.in/contact-us.aspx

All intl flights are moving to T3 including to KTM. I am not sure why there a problem in that case.
Jet Airways is prominently displaying a notice on their website that all international flights have moved to T3.
