Two tickets on same flight

Jet advises me that if I have two ticketed bookings on the same flight their computer will auto cancel one of them. Is that true? What about cases where they could be more then one person on the same flight with same names.

One booking is in F and the other in J

I would have assumed that if a ticket is paid for and issued then they will not auto cancel the ticket. Can anyone confirm this?

All airlines operate dupe check algorithms that will ID double bookings. Usually the booking is not cancelled automatically, but the reservation gets a remark that the booking seems to be dupe and will be cancelled within x hours or by y if the TA doesn't contact the airline with an explanation. If thereservation was made directly with the airline, you get notified/asked by the airline.

A lot of TAs make 'fake' dupe bookings to hold space on flights, even ticketing the same. Airlines of course don't like this, as their revenue/load forecasting is distorted by this.

I know TA's make fake bookings but they normally don't issue the fake bookings. As then they would have to pay the cancellation charges.

I have had dupe bookings cancelled before which were not ticketed. But I found it weird that they would cancel a paid and ticketed flight. The airline doesn't have my contact details as of now so what if there were two Mr A Smith flying on the same flight but in different class. Risky to cancel one ticket due to duplicate?

Any ways out of this?

call jet & let them know why you have 2 bookings....they can put a remark on your reservation so that it does not get cancelled....

Just did that twice. Both agents said that they can't do that as the system will auto cancel.

If frequent flyer/passport info/contact phone numbers have been entered into the booking it would make it easier to determine whether it is the same traveller or just a co-incidence , similarly , if booked through an agent and 'both' pax are booked through the same agent it makes it easier for the airlines to tell . Back when I was an agent I had occassional problems with father and son travelling on the same flight and having identical names ( I have never understood why some parents are so lacking in imagination - why on earth would "John Smith" choose to call his own son "John" as well - this is where we need a 'smiley' for "Shakes head in bewilderment" ;) for some reason women either have more common sense or are endowed with more imagination as mother/daughter with identical names seems much more rare thankfully )

I know of a father-daughter duo that share their forenames - Alex.
