Konnect gets a boost :)
From facebook:
Expect more luxury on Jet Airways Konnect flights: Introducing 'Konnect Select', the new premium class!

Effective April 26th, 2010 we are pleased to introduce ‘Konnect Select’, our all new Premium Cabin service specifically targeted at the business and leisure travellers who desire more flexibility, comfort and benefits

Another insult to top tier JP members.

Instead of letting them get first dibs on J cabins on Konnect flights, they expect you to pay for it now with a Economy meal thrown in as a minute sweetener.

On the face it, it is the same as Domestic J service but with the Domestic J seats (40" legroom) NOT the international config B737-800s.

Ok, ive just priced up a BOM-IXC-BOM for a week in June and the premiere price (which im guessing means Select) is a mouthwatering 30480INR.

Looks like a long term move towards the US style of operating a 2 class service domestically: In Y you get diddly squat but there will be J cabin with frills.

Bravo to Jet Airways for further confusing the Indian flying public!

+1

Now there are, what, let me see... regular Y, regular J, Jet Lite, Konnect, and Konnect Select? And individual fare buckets in each of them? WAY TOO COMPLICATED.

What this means (the way I see it), though, are two things:

First, the negative ... no longer can we expect to fly in J seats when booked on metal that has premiere seating but marketed as Konnect (like DEL-MAA for me this morning, ^ btw for that !). Have to settle for the normal Y seats instead.

Second, the positive ... this is probably Jet's way of bringing back the J seats, and progressively move back to their original equipment configuration (retrofitting back the retrofitted seats :D).

In substance, seems like a way to bring in the "premium economy" concept that has existed outside India for some time now. Though the difference is, overseas, it is economy seats with better food, whereas Konnect Select means economy food with better seats !

Im expecting Kingfisher to respond by introducing their new premium cabin......

.....Kingfisher Red HOT!

Just noticed, that on 9W's website, this is being touted as "Premiere". For MAA-DEL, this is around Rs 15k, whereas base non-refundable fare is around Rs 6.5k. Completely not worth it...I might as well buy 2 base Y tickets, do an OLCI on the first Y row, and travel in better comfort (sans crap served in the name of food) ! That will be still cheaper than K-Select !!!

so for a return del-bom-del ticket, i'm getting a fare of inr 34,858 as the cheapest première fare, inr 47,852 if i want to fly according to my time schedule & inr 30,708 if i take the one & only flight that offers konnect select....

that doesn't seem to be too much of a saving....if i'm flying konnect then i may as well take the cheapest fare (neither way will i get my preferred flying time)....

i wonder how the upgrade voucher & tier miles will work on these flights....

They are segmenting the market, based on various feedback (maybe even from here) to earn more, which makes good business sense!

However, I agree with everyone's views here...

Earn 2 Tier Points for every flight on Konnect Select
Earn Cabin Bonus (% of Base JPMiles)
• Platinum members earn 60%
• All other members earn 50%

Why dont they just say they are reintroducing the "Premiere" (J) cabin. The fare buckets for "Select" are actually the same as "Premiere" (P, I, J etc) but it is marketed as "Select" on "Konnect" flights. The FF rewards are all the same as "Premiere".

Wonder what will happen if there is a "konnect" flight with only 1 or 2 booked in "Select". Will they just suddenly revert on an ad hoc basis to all Y? or will they respect the cabin.

Surely they would have got more brownie points and a thumbs up from FF if they just cut the crap and said "Due to demand, J is back"

The cynic inside me thinks there is an underlying motive for why they have marketed differently from Domestic J even though everything is the same.

If you look at the page (http://www.jetairways.com/EN/IN/Prod...ectSelect.aspx) where Konnect Select if offered, these are clearly the routes on which some of the metal used have not been retrofitted.

Good business sense, I agree...

i think you are right....they will always find people to fly konnect select....i know i used to avoid any konnect flight that was longer than an hour because of the fact that there was no business class....but now i'll fly konnect if the time suits me....

There's another interesting thought. Select might now be used to segment the international market ! From a miles, points, etc perspective, it is no different from J. They'll probably cut down (or out completely) the alcohol.
