Kingfisher/KLM on same ticket - baggage through check?
Flying India - LHR on Kingfisher First, then connecting LHR-AMS-GVA 23 hours later in business class.
Two questions, which I have been unable to get an answer on: 1. Will the luggage get a through check in, to my final destination? (Flights are booked on the same ticket.) 2. What is the baggage allowance, ex-India? |
1. You will get a through checkin just fine.
2. Not sure but IT first folks are going to be very flexible on your baggage. |

Firstly, the baggage allowance will be whatever Kingfisher gives you because they are the first carrier and others have to honour it.
Secondly, when checking in at BOM, make sure your baggage tags and receipts are marked all the way to GVA. The lugguge should go all the way to GVA without you having to pick it up anywhere. Bonus is that Kingfisher and KLM are in the same terminal (LHR T4) and handled by the same agents (Cobalt previously known as KLM Ground Services) Thirdly, when checking in with KLM at LHR, give them the baggage receipts numbers to verify that their system has the same numbers. Any discrepency will mean that your baggage will not be loaded onto the KLM aircraft at LHR due to strict security rules in place. If everything goes swimmingly and as you say, everything is on one ticket, you will not have to worry about anything. |
Thanks for the feedback re: the through check in of bags. It would be a disaster if I had to lug my bags around in London for the 23 hour stay.
Anyone flown KingfisherFirst on this route? Comments on the luggage policy? |

normally your bags should go through, but with a 23 hour layover, I'm not so sure they will. You will want to ask KF and maybe even check at baggage claim. If it doesn't work out, there is always left luggage facility at LHR.
I say this because I had an 8 hour overnight layover in BOS, and even though my bag was tagged through to final and they said it would go through fine, it did not... I saw it appear on the bag carousel. YMMV. |
