Jet to start BOM-JNB

I heard a couple of weeks back, from an inside source, that 9W's got plans to start a Mumbai-Jo'burg service. Not sure if this complements the existing SAA service on that same route, or if it is a compete. If the latter, then I suspect the SAA-9W tie up / codeshare will stop. Any updates?

I also googled this, and found:

Interesting... I wonder if they will have the loads to make this route worthwhile.

Well - if they tie up with SAA that makes a very useful route to connect to places in east and west africa, or onestop to europe as an alternative to the middle east.

interesting - would be glad to see this route added, but SAA is not bad though.

How would S Africa been enroute to Europe from India?

for people who want more miles, sure :) i see it as more of a feeder for the east and west africa markets though - it'd still be ultralong haul to the USA right?

In time for the World Cup or not?

Beyond the benefits of more options to more of Africa that this would open up, this might make for two more much more direct options to get between India and Brazil (and maybe even Argentina).

yeah, it's really not a practical stop point for going to the US (JNB-US is longer than most US-India routes). On the other hand, it's great for south america (GRU/GIG or PBM (?!))

Yes, its great for South America connections, and for a good part of Africa as well, though I agree there are some decent connections on Emirates as well.

I think this route makes sense, at least based on my inability to book a D-class ticket BOM-JNB, there must be premium loads. However, I don't think the SA flight is daily--maybe Jet will offer to split the week w/SA, so there is a daily flight.

SA doesn't partners with 9W. Only AI.

I have never flown on this route, how are the load factors?

There is an indian poulation in quite a few african countries aside of South africa and with SAA's local connections, would make sense for the Indian diasporic community there..
