Kingfisher: What does MAAS mean?
 

I notices that my bags and boarding passes in India had a label "MAAS" attached to it.

Does anybody know what this stands for?

I realy enjoyed my Kingfisher Experience and later this week I hope to post a trip report.

I have been out of the industry for a while , but I am pretty sure it is "Meet And ASsist" .

Not sure if any of the following apply to you , but we used to use "Meet and Assist" requests for older travellers , people with a significant disability , one parent travelling with multiple children etc ... I was never really sure how much notice individual airlines took of the request as feedback from pax was quite mixed . These days with most airlines focussing on keeping their headcount down they do not often have 'spare' staff around to be able to
meet and assist .

you were travelling in Kingfisher First and had a connection? They want to make sure that they identify you for the connection and as a premium passenger they want to make sure your ok and assist you through BOM.

Yup Kingfisher First (what a great product within India too) and your explanation makes sense because I really got meet & assist all the way.

Yes, it is Meet And ASsist, though for a long time, I thought it was a 4-letter coding for Madras (MAA, now Chennai) !!!

I do believe it's Meet And Assist Service, although the 'service' may have a backronym element to it.

My sister has travelled unaccompanied with SQ and CX and her BPs showed the same MAAS SSR, she was assisted every step of the way.

Use of MAAS by 9W and IT
 

Basically, as confirmed above MAAS or meet and assist referred to special handling cases such as UM'S and wheelchairs.
However, 9W started using these tags to identify their "CIPS" - Commerically Important Pax, and VIPs (aka Politicians in India). These came as a means of identifying bags for those passengers who are met on arrival at HUBS by a member of the dedicated concierge team (similar to AA concierge key) - however, there is no official way to get in - you just get identified and they start helping you out and if you fly regularily they give their phone number etc etc.
The only time I've seen them go out of their way to identify and inform passengers of this service is on international FIRST CLASS (i.e. 777's ex BOM to BRU,LHR,EWR and ex DEL to LHR and JFK(When they flew them)).

Kingfisher - which does many things 9W does, calls this Guest Relations, instead of PR or Premiere Relations.
Also, given their limited KFirst destintations, they tag all KFirst passenger bags with MAAS. This helps differentiate between KF fliers and Gold/silver card holders flying in EY which get the priority tags. If you fly KF you usually get both.
Anyway - thats the long of it.
