United Prepares for Life After Independence Air

With rival Independence Air in shambles, United Airlines is moving quickly to beef up its operations at Washington Dulles International Airport.

The Washington Post reports the carrier is preparing to hire 2,000 flight attendants, with about 700 of them to be based at Dulles.

Not sure this is really a life after I-Air type of deal. The same article reports that UA is beefing up its "overseas hub." It also reports they're beefing up ORD and will do SFO next year.

I agree that there is no correlation in this case. However, the Airtran announcement may be Indy-related.

United is ramping up for huge fare increases for all us poor DC-area saps, I'm sure. Unfortunately, this will affect me greatly, even though I personally did my best to support FLYi.
