HEADLYONE @ FatWallet (THANKS!) has started a thread of various national/regional chain and local restaurants that feature bonuses for purchases of their respective gift cards.

I have not researched if you can buy these on site at the restaurant or only directly thru a website, but it is likely that some of these you can purchase at the local restaurant -- and thereby also earn FF miles if they participate in IDINE.

Paragon "$40 gets you $60" gift card offer
 

I just received this one from Carver's, one of Paragon's restaurant chains, which accepts iDine in SMF area (hereabouts, that includes Hungry Hunter, Carver's and Cliff House):

"Two weeks remain for our $40 gets you $60 offer.
Get that last minute Father's Day gift..Or better yet,
get that tough Christmas gift out of the way really early!
We are offering all our guests a $60 gift card for $40!!

Obviously, I would not purchase online, but at my local iDine resto. This might provide a decent opportunity - purchase $60 gift cards for $40, get 400 miles? 50% purchasing leverage... yeah!

Of course, no love or miles buying online, but ask at your local Paragon franchise if they have this offer - get miles and a 50% bonus when you buy the meals. I don't know if all the Paragon properties participate, but if you frequent one, it will well pay to ask:

Apparently, there is no limit on the number of GCs you buy, and if they are usable at any Paragon property (which sounds likely,) you may find these both portable and useful (as on days when your predilect property may not award miles, but then again, you have a $60 GC you paid $40 for...)
