Vueling availability with Avios
Hi Team
Any guidance on how far in advance seats are available on Vueling to be redeemed with Avios through IB? Is it a set number of seats on each flight or dynamic? Seems availability is very sporadic. thanks |
It's actually quite simple. Don't ever expect to use your Avios on Vueling award flights via Iberia Plus.
There is no set number of seats available as awards. It's simply based on airfare. If the airfare is cheap enough, you might see a Vueling flight pop up. Except it would give you a ridiculously low value for your Avios. Even when you include the cost of checked luggage and seat selection (back rows only), you'd still be better off looking at the paid fares direct from Vueling or the various codeshares. Vueling awards are totally non-refundable, non-changeable so that standard advantage of awards isn't there either. P.S. If you have a few Avios you want to get rid of and need a Vueling flight, you can also open a Vueling Club account and partially offset the fare by spending Avios, again at a poor rate... |
Appreciate the insight! Thanks
Guess they weren’t showing as not cheap enough. The .51c redemption directly through Vueling is also horrific |
I saw some Vueling flights I wanted via Iberia Plus available, but I was wondering when you redeem via IB Avios, is the ticket redeemed going to be Fly Light, Fly, or Fly Grande? As the fees&taxes was more than the cost of the Vueling flight.

Unless you need them all, you aren't going to receive good value for your Avios by spending them on VY flights. (just book direct and pay for what you need) |

You are essentially booking the IB codeshare of the VY flight. So it comes with checked bag, overhead bin and seat selection at the back.
Unless you need them all, you aren't going to receive good value for your Avios by spending them on VY flights. (just book direct and pay for what you need) Iberia will generate its own PNR but yield no result on Vueling. Need to click "check in" on Iberia App (website somewhat crashed) to find out Vueling PNR. Reservation at first shown as only 1 underseat bag, but was able to select both rear and front seats. After doing the online check in via Vueling, reservation was mysteriously updated to have 2 cabin bags, 1 25kg check bag, Priority boarding (boarding pass now shows Group 1) and Fast Security Lanes. Not sure if it's a glitch or benefit that comes with Iberia. Seems a bit too good to be true but if it's really the case, redeeming some Avios might be useful for those who need 2 bags+1check bag+Fast lanes. |
It might be a minor glitch.
Group 1 is supposed to be those with the extra space seats at the front who have also paid for overhead bin space. Perhaps you managed to get one of the premium seats through luck and then the Vueling system gives you Group 1 to ensure that you find overhead bin space. The IB+ codeshares are supposed to come with checked bag + overhead bin bag + underseat bag but Group 2 boarding. IIRC But to be honest it's been awhile since I booked VY as an IB codeshare since the value isn't there for me... |

I used Avios for Vueling only beacuse I accidentally transferred extra MR and I see no use of Avios in the near future so I thought might will just burn it. Cash price is around 113EUR and I paid 5250+67EUR. Around 1cpp, bad but not to bad I guess. |

Sorry for bumping this old thread. Just booked Vueling using Iberia Avios (transferred extra from MR so might well just burn it). System is somewhat glitchy.

As you mentioned Vueling uses a different PNR from Iberia, but when you book on Iberia, when the booking confirmation page displays there will be a link to check in on the Vueling site and if you click that link you will be taken to Vueling and shown the Vueling PNR. I believe that you also can find this check-in link on the Iberia website under manage booking (it does not show the Vueling PNR but it gives a link to the Vueling check in page that will show the Vueling PNR). |
