The last couple of times I've flown in business shorthaul it has been Jaume Serra Brut Nature, from 187,5 ml bottles. (It's common for airlines to have different wines on longhaul flights, not sure if this is the case with Iberia.) It's OK but could not be called a very exclusive cava. And definitely not so good that I would let it influence my choice of airline. But no reason to avoid it once you find yourself in IB business class. :p

I can't recall the brand - as it may change from time to time - but it is usually one of the major industrial cava brands that any Spaniard would recognise and could get in the supermarket for less than 10 euros. (which means it has no chance of being a more artesanal cava that might actually be drinkable)

Wines - especially red - are generally the better choice with IB.

Thank you both. One can always rely on getting an answer to one's queries here.

And if you are lucky they have it actually available (they never seem to offer or show it pro-actively on short haul) and if even luckier when it will even be chilled :p

Good idea…..if I am not wrong you can buy the cava mentioned above well under 4 euros(750 ml bottle).

Yes, I was given a complimentary bottle of a Jaume Serra in a hotel recently. Within 30 minutes of drinking a single glass, I had a crushing hangover / headache.

It would take a couple of bottles of a decent champagne to do that. :D

Sore head; could have been the two jugs of sangria?

I agree. On longhaul J, Iberia serves the wines from a “Sommelier’s recommendation” wine list (https://www.iberia.com/gb/on-board/o...s-plus-cellar/) which changes monthly (well, usually only part of it changes). This wine list is not positioned at the very top end, but definitely above the standard supermarket variety. They also include some less know winegrowing regions of Spain and also some less known producers.

Having that said, the Cava is NOT part of this wine list, which already says a lot about its positioning. For quite some time it has been Villa Conchi Brut Selection. Iberia itself also sells it in their Club del Vino to residents of Spain, at EUR 10.35 or 2588 Avios the bottle. I usually take a glass as a pre-departure beverage on the ground, but never order any more one the full bar is open after departure.
