Schedule Change
Have an award flight booked months ago JFK-MAD-EAS.
Logged in to take a look (it departs in July) and see the following: Some of the flights on your itinerary have undergone a time change. To continue, please accept the changes. Please excuse any inconvenience that may have been caused. Problem is the flight from JFK lands in MAD @ 10:10a, and it's asking me to accept a flight that departs MAD-EAS @ 09:45a. I haven't clicked Accept Changes yet, and I am wondering what the best practice is here with Iberia? Accept and then see what happens? Call first? |
In general you now have a great deal of flexibility. Do your research ahead of time. i.e. do you want a later flight to EAS. Would you rather redirect to BIO or PNA, etc.? Would you rather cancel for a refund?
Once you know your alternatives and have decided which you'd prefer, call Iberia and deal with the schedule change. |
I have a similar issue. My question is will IB let me switch from LIS-MAD-ORD to OPO-MAD-ORD? If it was AA or BA i'd feel comfortable asking....but with IB customer service as horrid as most report....not sure its worth the hassle of even trying.

same thing happened to me recently..bos-mad-ath. Mad-ath was cancelled and they wanted to put me on a flight a day later meaning I would lose a vacation day. I ended up adding a day to make it work

Proposed auto rebooking often makes no sense. Consider it an invitation to do some research, figure out the exact flights which suit you, and call in.

My recent rebooking experience with IB CS was both with the Spain and US numbers that they were only able/willing to book some other IB options, no other OW alternatives were acceptable to them, despite it was their schedule change misconnecting me. To me their CS doesn't seem very empowered, unlike e.g. AA and BA in similar situations.
Wouldn't expect any more flexibility than what they offer. |
Once in a while, they’ll offer BA (I had that luck and it was super convenient), but other times they are quite strict (I had JNB-MAD-ORD, and they cancelled their JNB-MAD and would put me on JNB-LHR-MAD-ORD, but not JNB-LHR-ORD). But they are often nice with cancellation and waiving the cancellation fee, although be warned that actually receiving your refund is far from a simple matter often times... hope this helps! |
