Iberia baggage with OW Sapphire?

Hello fellow flyers,

I've been OW Sapphire for several years and have never had a problem obtaining extra baggage. However, this has always been with 'normal' fares where baggage is included.

Does anyone know if this is also ok with Iberia on their "handbaggage only" fares? It's long-haul... MAD - MEX.

Any advice appreciated....might mean a change of flight!

Cheers,
Chris

Hey Chris!

https :// www. iberia. com/es/iberiaplus/gold/?language=en (Sorry, can't post links yet!)

"Your Iberia Plus Oro card offers you an allowance of 1 additional piece of baggage of up to 23 kg on tickets with an allowance of 0 or 1 pieces on all Iberia Group routes an on international oneworld* flights as a Sapphire customer.

*The oneworld airlines reserve the right to restrict any benefits they deem appropriate in any of their fares.

Plus you can benefit from extra weight of up to 32 kg per suitcase.

As an Iberia Plus Oro member, all sports equipment and musical instruments are included in your baggage allowance for all flights operated by the Iberia Group (Iberia, Iberia Regional Air Nostum and Iberia Express) at no additional cost, provided that you do not exceed the allowance."

Not being nitpicky, but the OP has OW Sapphire status, not necessarily an Iberia Plus Oro account. I believe that that the rules Iberia has for its own Oro customers may be different from customers with OneWorld Sapphire.

Hi Jessica,
Here is the equivalent of Sapphire and Oro in Iberia: https://www.iberia.com/es/our-allian...yers-benefits/

From what I understood, a OW silver flying premium economy can check 3 bags. However, the weight allowance is 23kg or 32kg per bag?

Ok, it seems I was wrong. OW silver do not get any additional baggage in Premium Economy.
However it seems they have an allowance of 32Kg.

Does any have recent experience flying basic fare with Iberia as a OW Sapphire member?
I check-in for a flight from Madrid to Barcelona with a super cheap basic fare. I could select exit row for free, but my boarding pass no longer shows Sapphire status. In the past, the status is shown on the boarding pass, with the Sapphire status, the gate agent could waive the checked luggage fee.
Is there any recent change to OW Sapphire benefit on basic fare?

No change. You can check a bag.

Thanks for the feedback.
I refreshed my boarding pass again within the check-in window, the status and FastTrack privilege shows up on the boarding pass.

I just want to double check. Flying business on two sectors, two separate tickets. London to Madrid and then Madrid to Santo Domingo. I am Oneworld Sapphire. My e-ticket is showing luggage allowance of 2 pieces at 23kg. I think I'm right in saying I get overweight up to 32kg free because both sectors are in Business, is this correct? It isn't clear on the website that Sapphires get overweight free, but I think I've seen that Business is.

Also, my checked bag allowance always used to be 3 pieces for long-haul Business, has than changed recently? (It was 3 pieces last October for example)

Both business and Sapphires get bags up to 32 kgs, or rather aren't charged for the excess.

For London to Madrid you get 1 bag if of an Optimal business fare, 2 otherwise. You can have the second bag by paying 38 on Optimal. For the longhaul from MAD, it is 3 bags if Sapphire. A through ticket from London to SDQ would have the same allowance as MAD to SDQ so that may explain the difference. As a general rule e-tickets tend to give the allowance without taking status into account, so you often have to add that on top.

Hi CWS thanks for your reply. Where can I see the 3-bag allowance? I've looked on the My Flights section and on the e-ticket and on the booking confirmation and all of them say 2 bags.

Possibly I was unclear but you will NOT see status related checked baggage benefits in e-tickets and booking confirmations: that is a general position within the aviation industry. It is visible online however, for example in the baggage calculator. Because these are separate tickets you need to check each sector separately, and Oro is the equivalent to Sapphire.

Sorry to keep asking questions. I'm Silver with BA but only have the basic Clasica with Iberia. In my Iberia account I transfer the Avios from BA over and then book, so obviously it needs my Iberia Plus number in the booking. How do I then tell the system that I am Silver with BA?
