Travelling to Madrid
I am trying to book flights back to UK on June 29th from Miami. They are all very expensive $1500 for basic economy seat with AA.I found i can fly to Madrid for $500 on same flight. Question is can i take this flight travel with hand luggage and just not fly the Madrid leg of the journey? I have a European passport. Would I prevented from boarding in Miami because of Spanish borders being closed?

Welcome to Flyertalk and welcome to the IB forum glen01. Can you perhaps clarify which airline you would be flying with? If it's an AA aircraft then AA may well want to know your bona fides for entering Spain (and that in turn depends on your passport and usual residence). If you want a single ticket then generaly you can not fly the last leg, but AA sometimes checks on something called Hidden City routing. If it's a return then the return would be cancelled too. Moreover I can see fares on 29 June which are well under USD1,000 (single) for a lot of alternatives. Hopefully you can clarify what you want to do to give better advice.

Thanks for your reply. My husband is already booked on the AA 38 so I really need to get on same flight as him as our car is in Heathrow and we are then going into quarantine. One way ticket is just short of $1000 as opposed to $570 to Madrid return. I believe that iberia lost in court the ability to cancel your ticket if you don't travel all legs of the journey so i could push return to later in the year. I can buy on iberia website. The big question is really what happens at Miami will American check residency and deny boarding based on that.
