Avios + elite points on an upgraded BA fare
 

Was looking at booking one of the PE fares in the BA sale and upgrading to CW using Avios (either via my IB or BA accounts).

Question is.. do you still earn elite points and Avios based on the original purchased ticket class?
I had heard on the BA forum these sometimes post as 0 tier points, and a lot of hassle is needed to get the points retro credited.

I need the elite points to retain Platino for next year, so wondering whether I just fly in PE or take the risk in upgrading the ticket..

You are wise to be cautious. Fixing something with IB+ is far more difficult than with BA and if the glitch is well known with BA, I don't see how IB+ would be any likelier to credit the correct Avios and Elite Points for your paid fare.
