Avios for US to either oz or nz
 
Hi... is there a way to book directly on Iberia plus site for lax/sfo to oz or akl using Iberia avios? Nothing is showing up with a search even though these are usually single leg with either AA or mostly qantas. Or do I have to do search through either aadvantage or Qantas sites (or even ba) to look for availability and then call Iberia for them to book the award tix?

Look for "MileSAAver" availability -- on either AA or QF -- at aa.com. If you find any, you should be able to book them with IB Plus Avios. But if the MileSAAver flights you found on aa.com don't show up on Iberia's website, then try calling Iberia Plus.

Watch out for potentially high carrier surcharges on those routes.

OZ/NZ award space is so scarce, especially in J, that I wouldn't add the extra complication of hoping that you find the one IB+ agent willing to book it for you instead of saying "no availability" to get rid of you.
