New boarding process
I heard about this a while ago, but I have just received the official email from IB. They have changed the boarding groups:
- Families with infants and passengers that require assistance. - GROUP 1: Infinita, Singular, Emerald, Sapphire and Business - GROUP 2: Ruby, Premium Economy, Puente Aéreo and passengers who checked in their hand luggage - GROUP 3: Óptima and Flexible fares - GROUP 4: Básica There will be dedicated counters at MAD to check in hand luggage and passengers will receive text messages and emails informing them of this possibility. The maximum sizeof the personal item is 40x30x15 cm. Overall, not a revolutionary change, but cleaner than what we have now. |
Roughly aligning with BA, but throwing Emerald and Sapphire together doesn't seem like a good idea

They have been doing priority boarding longer than BA (and even with Rubies in the same group). In general they don't have as many Sapphires and up as BA, I think it's OK.

Hopefully its properly enforced also the growing number of people that need extra time or assistance is becoming dubious to put it lightly.

It’s a bit of a mess now as far as Group 2 goes. In MAD the priority panel continues to indicate Group 1 but now also indicates Group 2 Ruby. That said as per above you can be group 2 with or without priority boarding (if Ruby you have it now, if you checked luggage you don’t). A little bit confusing for gate agents and passengers. |
