Iberia Silver - Plata... somewhat confused.
 

My last return flight MAD-JFK gave me Silver/Plata status on Iberia. New to status as my flight requirements usually have me split between 3-4 airlines. So a card arrives in the mail, Silver/Plata until 4/2020. My flight to achieve status was on 3/8/2019. My online in-system status says Plata. My booking for today says Plata and priority check-in. Yet, no baggage allowance was given and when I called CS they told me I didn't fly enough flights to maintain silver for the year.

Can somebody break this down for me? really don't want to pay for a checked bag if this status only had a 3 week lifespan :D

Plata is Oneworld Ruby. No extra luggage allowance. You need IB+ Oro / Gold for that...

Are you flying on Iberia metal? If so, Plata does give you an extra bag when the regular allowance is 0 or 1 and the overweight fee is waived (not for other OW Rubies, though and only flying on IB, this is not a OW rule). Maybe your booking was not updated if it was made before you achieved status, but it should be OK at the airport (I would bring the card to show at check in if there is a problem).

Thank you. Yes, on Iberia metal and I did present the card and the bag was free. And yes, it was booked before the status posted - good call :)
