IB > AV in Bogota (single-ticket)

Saludos!

I am looking at a flight from MAD-BOG on Iberia in J, connecting to a domestic Colombia flight on Avianca also in J.
Iberia will sell this as a single ticket.

What is the procedure for checked luggage?
Can it be tagged to the final destination (and just dropped off after customs in BOG)?
Or do I need to go through the check-in process with Avianca in Bogota?

Same issue on the return as well...
Thanks in advance.

Last time I did this (but all on AV), my luggage was checked all the way through to CTG. No need to collect in BOG and drop off after customs... I was a bit skeptical but it worked fine. I imagine there would be no difference with a single ticket IB/AV.

You will need to walk through customs yourself and walk over to the domestic wing and go through security again. If you are flying to one of the main Colombian cities your flight will leave from the main building. IIRC flights to some smaller airports depart from a satellite terminal.

Just to verify for future reference...

Bag was checked through to final destination in Colombia and was transferred seamlessly in Bogota.
All Avianca domestic flights now leave from main terminal, so no need to transfer to former satellite.
Same thing applied on the reverse.

All-told, a rather easy process.
